Am I wrong?

Am I wrong to not want to see my boyfriends family every Sunday evening?
He works 6days a week and so Sundays our one family day.
Every Sunday seems a lot to be seeing your mother at our age and I didn’t see my grandparents every week growing up…am I wrong?

It’s not wrong to have feelings or to want to do something different than what your bf wants to do, that’s completely human. If it’s something you don’t want to do weekly, have you brought it up to him yet?

He knows I can’t stand his mother, she puts on the waterworks whenever she doesn’t get her way. And she disregards the boundaries I have for my kids.
Kinda sad because I’m going to have to share my first Mother’s Day with her 😭

Her not respecting boundaries is definitely not ok, especially when it comes to the kids! It sounds like your bf needs to set some boundaries of his own with her, she sounds rather manipulative. I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with all this, it sounds so frustrating!

I was/am in the same situation. My mil has an expectation that we would be present at her weekly family dinner and got so offended when we stopped going because of my husbands shifts. I will not go without him because Sunday evening is my down time before Monday morning and I agree, why do we need to see your mother and family that much when it’s not enjoyable to anyone. I just stopped going and told him what it is. My parents live 5 mins from us and I see my parents maybe here and there, because they get it! Young couples need their time alone to solidify a relationship that lasts forever. Not constantly be under Sunday dinner rule like children. It’s not wrong, it’s RIDICULOUS. unless you have an amazing relationship with them and are comfortable, then it’s worth getting together, however if not, and mind you it took me some time to find my backbone on this one, stay your ass at home with your kids and husband and build your family memories at your own house. You’ll be much happier.

100% agree.
His gone from 8am till 6pm ish 6days a week for work and so we hardly see him, our sons in bed by 8pm.
I’m completely isolated where we live and I’m lucky to see my own family 2-3times a year because they live 4hrs away.
I just want our one whole day together to be our own little family without having to dread spending 2-3hrs + of it with his mother in the evening 🥺
I feel like 2 Sundays a month to ourselves is a reasonable ask 🤔

what does it take? Do you need to start planning Sunday morning breakfast at your mothers house? How about we jack up everyone’s entire day. it’s only until it got to that point that my husband started to realize that I was serious in my view of the importance of spending that time alone together. Just giving you an example of how I fixed my issue 😆, maybe it could help you.

I could not relate more. My MIL calls/messages my husband to ask him “are you home” on his days off. My hubby, he’s quiet and sweet so of course in His little head he thinks what she’s doing is innocent. My mil will pop up here WITH THE DINNER SHE MADE ON SUNDAY FOR HIM. I put a stop to that with him directly. believe me, perhaps I need to have a separate post of my own. it’s been 5 years since we’ve had our own place and I’ve asked him to handle her himself but men seem have guilt when it’s wife vs mother. Now we’ve had our little one and she tries to use that as her way of coming back here to use up my valuable time with him and our baby. Setting respectful boundaries are very important. And voice them! Not to cause issues but to address it early on or else it will be more of a battle for you in the future.

Let’s just say it took him some time to understand not to touch that plate in OUR home or else we’re on a diet for the week because I won’t be cooking. he can make that plate last for 7 days.

Amrita has got it in one tbh

She will do the same when I suggest 2sundays a month and likely put waterworks on to manipulate my partner.
With another baby on the way something’s gotta give.

lol I love this

Please don’t share your Mother’s Day with her!!

Avatar

Yeah I really don’t want to and I’m hoping to sway my partner away from the idea, but we shall see.

His taking a day off work on the Thursday before so that we can take our son out for the day - my suggestion as quote “Because I’ll be sharing Mother’s Day with your mum be nice to do something ourselves too…”
