Sweep

I was offered a sweep when I had saw my midwife at 38+5 days but said no, I’m going to wait until my due date and beyond to consider induction x

You dont HAVE to have an induction, unless there are overwhelming medical reasons that not having one will harm you or your baby. Strep B could actually not be present by the 14th as it comes and goes but most likely they will have you on an antibiotic drip if you have ever tested positive. To be honest all the old wives tales of dates, raspberry leaf tea, exercise, pineapple juice etc dont have any evidence. Sorry to say that when bubs is ready, they will come. If you really dont want an induction tell your midwife you dont and ask them about the benefits and risks and make an informed decision yourself. Its your body and you get to decide what you do

Thankyou so much for your response! Absolutely, I understand It’s ultimately my decision however I have Gestational Diabetes and they say the placenta becomes less effective past the due date

I am the same in this case if you have GD might be safer to do an induction, having mine next week at 38+5 baby is 7lb10 already at 36 weeks so will see

I opted not to have a sweep when I was strep B positive last pregnancy as I tend to overthink things and was worried for same reason you are. I had a sweep yesterday 38+4 as tested negative this time during a 36 week test but I don’t think it’s done anything anyway tbh and I’m still opting to have the antibiotics in labour this time due to the previous strep B

@Nicki my midwife spoke to me about a sweep today and recommended waiting until 41 weeks and said to get 3 sweeps, 2 days of each other before the hospital recommended an induction through medication. Wanted to know, did the sweep hurt?

no it didn’t hurt just mildly uncomfortable but I do think that as it’s my second baby everything down there is a bit more stretched now 😂 and my cervix was soft so that might have helped. If it hurts they will stop at any point though x
