2 month baby girl has a respiratory virus and bad reflux. Been to a and e and doctors several times as she turned blue and not keeping anything down started to loose weight
They keep telling me to monitor it and come in if worried not really telling me how to help
I’ve been giving her nasal spray, gaviscon and feeding her via a syringe all research by myself
Don’t seem overly concerned as seems fine when at doctors during the day and only gave her baby gaviscon . not the screaming, wheezing, shallow breathing , vomiting, refusing boob/bottle she does at home during the night
Only seem to act if dyhdrated, loosing weight, or have a fever
Need advise as feel like doing everything I can to avoid the above situation with no help from health care providers as not sure how much she’s actually eating

Monitor wet nappies and her general mood. Sleepy baby usually means unwell baby. If she doesn’t eat, sleeps more than usual and doesn’t pass urine, go to ED and be strict with them. Usually viruses go on their own after few days x

If you’re breastfeeding, then do a lot of skin to skin and feed directly from the breast. Kiss her face and nose often to sample her pathogens so your body will create antibodies for her.
Use to nose Frida and saline drops to relieve her congestion.
Have her sleep on you upright or inclined to make breathing easier.
Get a humidifier to help open up her nasal passages.

she’s having wet nappies. sleeping more than usual when finally get to sleep.has been constipated due to gaviscon so had to give her laxatives from doctor then blow outs. Trying to be. They refused to do any test till I pushed it with them that’s how we found out she had a virus. They tried to pass it off as just a fussy newborn baby.mothers instinct has kicked in that’s why feel like they are fobbing me off and not supporting or giving any helpful information to help her

I’ve been doing skin to skin as much as possible
I’ve got the calpol saline nasal spray. I’ve got the frida mom snot sucker but can never get anything out don’t know if I’m doing it wrong
She has been sleeping on my chest as only way sometimes she will sleep for the past two weeks
I’ve got Vicks vapour drops in a bowl of hot water . I take her in the shower with me in her Moses basket the steam seems to help a little but not for long

you also need to be kissing her face/nose A LOT. You have to make sure you’re getting as much of the virus into your body as possible to create a lot of antibodies for her in the breast milk. This will be the most efficient way to help her recover :)
The nose Frida you gotta create a suction by putting the tip at the nostril so that it completely blocks the nostril. That’s the difficult part! When you get it positioned, though, and suck hard, then you will get a lot of mucus out! Use the saline drops first to loosen the mucus, though.
You’re not supposed to use Vicks for babies under the age of 2. Studies have shown bad side effects in young babies, so that’s why they have the 2yr age limit.
The shower steam is good, though! If you get a humidifier, then it will help her breathe through the night as well!

I love kissing her head and face in general throughout the day anyway
I’m not putting the Vicks on her it’s in water and pharmacy recommended a baby one which is vapour can be used from birth will do some more research
Will go get a proper humidifier today

perfect! She is sure to recover in no time!
Oh you got the baby specific one? That one can be used from 6mo and above :)
Sick babies are tricky, because it is so hard to find remedies that are safe for them 🥲
Exclusively breastfeeding at this time is going to help a lot. The milk is the medicine! Every time she drinks your fresh breastmilk, just think of it as her medicine. It really is the most useful thing. Also, make sure you’re taking extra vitamin C and that you are taking your general supplements during this time. The strength of your immune system directly impacts her.
Good luck with your baby! Let us know when she’s better :)

Maybe give your health visitor a call on Monday and go in and see them. They will know you and your baby better that A&E and should be able to give you some advice.

I would do it a few times to try and get to the gold!
It can be difficult getting a good suction with a moving baby. My husband and I had to work together 🤣
