Congestion
My little boys been snorty since birth.
At first I thought it was just newborn mucus and thought it would pass however its continued and gets worse at night. He’s now 5 weeks old.
Went to Gp and asked for a trail of CMPA milk as my first had CMPA and he was congested too which went away a day after starting the prescribed milk.
We were on it for a week but the congestion didn’t clear much and it made me little ones reflux worse and made him very bad with bottom wind.
So I put him back on Kendamil.
The congestion seems to have got worse, however hes now got green snot so wondering if he’s now just got a cold? He’s got a little cough, and constantly sounding like a pig 🐷 he didn’t sleep all night apart from on me upright which I can’t physically do all night or else I won’t sleep!
His sick is also very thick and sticky I think because he’s swallowing mucus.
I’ve tried sucking out the mucus but not much comes out , it feels like he just needs a right good clear out. But something still worries me that I could be his milk? Anyone else going through similar??

Or does anyone know if a floppy larynx can cause these symptoms? I’ve suspected he’s had this from the start but not spoken to my GP as I’m worried they’ll just fob me off
We’ve had exactly the same. My little boy is 9 weeks now and sounds awful.
They said it was newborn mucus because he was a c section baby! But health visitors said it should have cleared.
He now has a cough and a cold so sounds much worse. I’m not sure if it’ll ever clear. We have health visitor again on Tuesday so I’m gonna bring it up with her x
If his mucus is colored, then he has an infection.
Mucus is normal for c-section babies, because they didn’t experience the pressure in the birth canal that squeezes out the mucus!
Have you tried the nose Frida? You can put a few drops of saline in his nose and then suck out the softened mucus with the nose Frida (just make sure you get good suction).
You can elevate the crib/bassinet on one side to keep his head and chest higher to help him breathe better. Being upright is the best position for him when he’s congested.
Also, a humidifier helps with congestion as well. Have one going on all night!
Do you have any colostrum saved? Do you make any breastmilk?
He wasn’t a c-section baby. He was a very fast vaginal delivery so I’m not sure why he’s always been like this 🥺 xx
no I’ve used all the colostrum and my milk has dried up now!xx
My 5 week old is the same. Always sounds congested - ive been using saline and a snot sucker to help him breath easier. It was a vaginal birth and I’m breastfeeding so im not sure what could be causing it x
My 8 week old is also the same and I feel like it’s related to reflux
You may want to look into cosleeping with him on your chest. On a bed propped up around 45 degrees, no other pillows of blankets nearby, and as away from the edge of the bed as you can get. Hope baby boy gets better soon and some relief! You’re doing great taking care of him
just bought some of this and waiting for a nose frida delivery! How long do I wait to use the sucker after putting this in ?xx
Have you tried nasal washes with saline solution? This was recommended to me by a private paediatrician.
Could it be silent reflux? This is where the milk travels up the oesophagus and it could be irritating his nose and making him congested. Hope he feels better soon and you’re able to get good sleep. 💙
Reflux and silent reflux can cause congestion and coughing as the fluid travels back up I think I’m having the same issue with my LG, but her reflux was a result of constipation and pushing so since being on laxatives it has gone away! Xx

I tried the sterimsr spray and the nose frida. Managed to get a good bit of gunk out but he still sounds bubbly behind his nose. Will continue to use and see if it makes a difference.
He definitely has reflux so this could be a playing part also. I’m just worried the reflux is caused by a milk allergy, but surely I would have seen improvement when moving onto the prescribed milk xx
Has anything worked for him Claudia? My little one is four weeks and is exactly the same 😩

he’s still very congested and snorting like a pig but the sterimar spray and the nose frida have really helped him!! I’m going to keep up with that and hope he improves as he gets older but I’m definitely bringing it up at his 6 week check xx
@Claudia its actually heart breaking! We had a very bad night with it last night, didn't sleep longer than 45mins to an hour without waking up😭
bless you. It’s so hard. Have you tried that sterimar spray in particular? Also the nose frida is amazing, we tried the bulb syringe but it did nothing compared to the frida. Last night was the best night we had since he came home xx
@Claudia no not the sterimar spray, I'll have a look into it thanks 🥰 we have the calpol saline spray. I have the nose frida and agree it's much better than the bulb one that came with a little health set. Glad you had a good night, we were better last night about 2-3 hours which is better than every 45 mind😴😴
how is your little one now? Has his congestion cleared up? My little boy is 6 weeks and is very congested with green snot and a horrible cough but it’s been going on for weeks now. Unsure if this is allergies or he’s just picking up gold from my 2 year old x
Hiya. Just wondering if you got to the bottom of your LOs congestion? My son is the same but the GP says because he’s still feeding and having wet nappies he’s fine x
Nope he still has it !! Not as bad but deffo still there xx
