Transverse ECV

Booked in for an ECV next week at 37+2. Baby is horizontal. Does anyone have any experience of ECV when baby is in this position? x

My baby was halfway between transverse and footling breech but I might still be able to help if there's anything specific you're wanting to know?

@Rebecca how did you find the procedure?? Was it successful?

@Alice I found it incredibly painful, like even more painful than the emergency c section I ended up with! I wasn't given any pain relief so it might have been easier with some. They had 3 attempts and each time baby turned but then flipped right back so its was ultimately unsuccessful. I'm still glad we gave it a go as I personally would have regretted not trying x

Thank you for sharing your experience - so sorry you had to go through so much pain. Hope you and baby are both safe and well now. I felt the same - I would have regretted not trying it. Luckily baby was already on their way now so they were easy to turn. Just need them to stay put!! x

My baby was in an extended breech position, the ECV was painful with gas and air so I can’t imagine doing it without any pain relief!! I was sore and in pain for days after it too. Mine was unsuccessful and had to have a c-section.

@Rebecca can I ask what caused you to need an emergency c section (rather than planned) was it the ECV or something else?

@Rhianna of course - it wasn't due to the ECV. Whilst it was unsuccessful there were no complications and baby was quite happy the whole time. They booked my scheduled c section for 2 weeks later but baby decided to arrive just a few days after the ECV. When my waters broke it was with heavy blood loss and I was labouring very quickly and of course baby was still in a position which was impossible to get out so they rushed me into theatre and whipped him out!

@Rebecca thank you for sharing

@Rhianna no problem!
