What are thoughts on the name Alys (pronounced Alice)?

I have no idea why it came bottom, I absolutely love it. It may be that some people may pronounce it 'Alees' instead of Alice, maybe?

I have a friend called Alys and she loves the spelling of her name! I don't think she ever has problems with people pronouncing it

I think not many outside of the UK would know that you have chosen this version because it is the welsh spelling, and while pronunciation-wise it is the same as Alice - your girl will probably have to clarify how her name is spelled, especially outside the UK.
I always have to say, Hey, I am Veronika with a K, which has now pretty much became part of my name.
If you have a strong attachment to this spelling and prefer it, then absolutely go for it!
It is beautiful, and people will know how to pronounce it, she just might need to spell her name out when in writing.

I’m in the US and i initially read it as “a-lease”. I know that’s the spelling you want, but I think if you put an e at the end I would have read it was “Alice” But it’s your baby, and your name choice.. pick you preferred way! 💛 it’s a pretty name regardless

I love it ! There’s a beautiful place in Florida called Alys beach . I was going to use it for my daughter but we chose Ally 🤍🤍

I think she would get annoyed with having to spell it out over and over through out her life on the phone for people

I think it probably got overlooked because it isn’t the traditional spelling. You should use it! It makes total sense if you’re welsh and this is the welsh variation for the name.

@Rachel in England, putting an 'e' at the end of that spelling would make it more likely we would pronounce it 'a-lease'.
Alys, using the same sound we would saying the name 'Lyn' with a 'y', is 'Al-iss' :)
