Royal Alex or Sturgeon?

Which one has the better NICU. As well as labor and delivery and post partum recovery? I had an emergency c section 8 months ago at the Royal Alex. My inducstion and everything after that was super rough. Especially since they put a latex folley balloon in when I'm allergic and told them constantly. Because of how everything went there, I am looking to maybe find an OB in St. Albert and goce birth at the Sturgeon for next baby whenever that happens. But there may be a possibility of an NICU stay for baby. We found out that my husband's and my blood don't mix. This mad my son have really bad jaundice and had to go back and stay in the NICU at a week old. Royal Alex sent us home when he was just under the threshold. Knowing now about the blood incompatibility, he would have been over the threshold. But Royal Alex has a great NICU. So, want to know how the Sturgeon NICU is. If it is really good, like the Alex then will maybe look for an OB there. We also want to know when we can start trying again. Have been told anywhere fork 1-3 years by different people, so want to talk to an OB.

Royal Alex, my daughter stayed in the NICU for about two weeks and honestly I can’t complain. The staff were amazing and the doctors as well.

I had my last baby by C-section at the Royal Alex and I cannot say enough good things about my experience there. I had my prenatal care through the Allin clinic and the entire team of doctors were awesome. My whole medical team was female and it was such a calm, supportive, empowering environment. The post partum stay was great as well! My nurses were so attentive and kind, and helped me through the night with my baby since he had a severe tongue tie, which was also handled before I was discharged so there was no delay and struggle with breastfeeding. My limited experience at the Sturgeon was awful. I went in for a miscarriage and they treated me like absolute trash.

Royal Alex

Originally, my OB was in Saint Albert because I live here and I was set to deliver at the Sturgeon. But due to needing to deliver early, I had to switch OB at the last minute and I saw Dr. Saks and delivered at the Royal Alex. My son was in the Nicu at both the Royal Alex and the Sturgeon. I had excellent care at both hospitals and the nurses in the Nicu at both places were amazing.

Also, the Royal Alex is known for having an excellent NICU

Royal alex all the way. Great labour and delivery, great nicu also the only hospital in edmonton that will allow you to donate or collect your stem blood

@Taylor thank you. Maybe there's hope for the Alex. My experience there was horrible. Amd scared to go back. But thr NICU was amazing.

@Ashley I applies for the cord blood donation but because he was born in a Sunday they didn't do it. They don't do weekends or evenings/nights anymore. So if abby is born in those times can't donate.

Sturgeon!

I gave birth at the Royal Alex in Feb and can’t say enough about how good of an experience it was. The nursing staff was incredible, the suites were clean and private. I don’t know anything about the sturgeon but I would highly recommend the Royal Alex. The lactation consultant Shelley (I think her name is) was so kind and caring.

I delivered at Sturgeon in October. Nurses and doctors are fantastic! My OB is Dr. Lacasse, but Dr. Kerr delivered. It was a great experience for me.

Sturgeon😊. Unless you have to deliver prior to 37 weeks
