When should I tell my employer I’m pregnant?
I just started a new job in November last year. I love my job so much. But I only got permanent last month. Then right after that I found out I was pregnant. Now 7 weeks along.
I don’t plan to announce my pregnancy to anyone until after the first trimester but I wonder when I should tell my employers?
I think I’m entitled to pregnancy leave but I don’t really know when I would need to take it (how far along etc). And I would prefer to have some time off after the birth instead if I had to choose. Maybe I’d be entitled to both but I feel so bad that I haven’t even worked a year there yet or even 6 months and am pregnant.
Though we weren’t planning and it just happened and we are happy but I also love my job and don’t wanna lose it so I am a bit worried I guess.

I’m in the same boat I started in September and I’m 8 weeks I’m not too sure when to tell, or if I even qualify for leave I’m a bit stressed but hoping it all works out in the end! Congrats tho! ❤️
I would say it depends on your job. I myself work a job that is very physical so I told my bosses just in case something was to happen. If your job is physical tell them immediately but if not maybe wait till after 12 weeks for precaution. I will most likely decide to get time off when it gets hotter because it’ll be more difficult in the heat. If you and your baby are healthy then you should be able to work however long you feel comfortable to do.
I told my employer right away. There are many factors to continue. What kind of job you have, any risks that would increase with you being pregnant, how much morning sickness you are experiencing and more. My job, for example, is high stress and I'm at some risk for physical harm. I work in a group home with an autistic teen who tends to be very angry sometimes. She has not hit staff before, but she has threatened. Yesterday I did get some drywall thrown at me, but I didn't feel I was in danger because one piece hit me and it was my shin. My work knows I'm pregnant so I quickly got quite a bit of back up so I didn't even have to be the one to restrain my client. I also have missed a few days due to morning sickness and migraines and they understand because they know the first trimester is hard.
I’m in a similar boat. I started the last week of January and JUST found out. I went right ahead and let them know. They were super understanding thankfully. Hoping everything works out for you 🖤
I told mines at about 8 weeks because I was so nauseous and sick and I needed them to know in case my productivity dropped
I told mine straight away for safety, even before family... was super weird. But depending on your state you can get 12 weeks protected leave (ie they don't have to pay you but your job is held for you) called FMLA. I would read up on what your state offers and check your contract.
You have to let them know legally by 25 weeks or third trimester is what I'm seeing online
