Depressed
I was so happy and excited to be pregnant. But after realising that even with 30 hours free childcare we will still have to come up with £860 per month to cover nursery fees for 3 days every week. It's a madness. It really takes away from me being excited about pregnancy. I feel stressed and anxious. We have no family around to help us.

It depends how nursery’s are allowed to offer it but £860 sounds like a lot. My one is much less a believe still not free but every little helps. Have a look into things such as tax free childcare as well, it’s a government scheme for each £8 pounds of childcare you pay they give you £2 back again not tons but does help over all x
I think it is area dependent and nursery dependent. I live in quiet expensive area for childcare where average child care full time is £1400 per month without help. I've calculated when I go back back full time with the 15 hours free/Tax-free government childcare scheme it will cost £900 per month and with 30 hours £700 per month. Every nursery does it differently and those with extra activities charge for them extra when you use free childcare hours. Shop around for childcare providers. £860 for just 3 days of child care seems very high just for the additional extras when usually if you go full time 5 days they offer discounts, you can use 30 hours free usually for 3 full days (my extras were £50 ish for all 3 days) then pay for 2 days at standard rate. Daily rates including all extras in my area £70 per day. Hope this helps xx
Are you sure you’ve worked this out correctly? Not sure when your baby is due but I’ll be entitled to the 30 hours when I go back to work my baby will be 9 months I’m looking at putting them in for 4 days a week 8:30-4:pm which the 30 hours p/w will cover (normal rate for my chosen nursery is £70 for the short day it’s £80 if they stay till 6pm) then the extras is £15 per day so about £240 per month.
@Amyee that cost sounds much more affordable and I wish nurseries in my area did the 8.30 till 4. Mine do school day with are 9am till 3.30 or you have to pay the full charge for the 7am to 6pm day even if they only use it from 8.30 till 5.30. Xx
Have you considered a childminder? Ours is such a blessing she had my toddler until he was three and will be having my little girl too. Much more flexible in terms of hours and he's like part of the family, he calls her aunty. ❤️
If you get access to child free tax care that’ll come down even more, you and your partner both individually need to earn less than £100,000 each so £860 will be cut to £688 x
