We're using gaviscon which does help

how old is your baby and how are you using it

I went to the doctors and they gave us gaviscon put in the milk

@Tuma Toto 5 weeks. I am combi feeding so putting the gaviscon in formula feeds

so you are breastfeeding but only putting gaviscon in the formula

We are putting the gaviscon in his bottles the dr said it should start working straight away. It’s not fair for you and baby to have to do go through this alone, nobody will ever understand how difficult it is to have a baby with reflux and watch them so uncomfortable. You aren’t alone x

hi is this prescribed or can you buy it? Also is it like baby gaviscon or just the normal one and how much do you put in a feed?

@Lisa prescribed, its called gaviscon infant, not sure if you can get it over the counter. It says to use 1 satchet in formula but i am only putting in half to avoid her getting constipation which can be a side effect

@Tuma Toto thats right, im really using it for the nights so she sleeps comfortably on her back. Dont want to put it in all feeds as it can cause constipation, and i can manage it in the day by holding her upright. Probably im just being OTT and putting it in all feeds would be fine

My baby has been on gaviscon since he was 3 weeks old. I EBF and mix it with 5ml of cooled boiled water and he has it with every feed. It’s helped him a lot

how are you giving it? I'm currently up with my baby girl who is so uncomfortable and screaming but if I try to give the gaviscon in a syringe or on a spoon she projectile vomits no matter how slowly you do it but she is completely refusing a bottle I just don't know what to do feeling really helpless right now and really need sleep but I can't put her down at all.

oh bless you i totally understand it’s super tough. I found the best for my baby is if I give him a small feed, only a couple mins then I will give him the gaviscon using a syringe. I’ll make sure to get it into his cheek little by little and he takes it pretty well. I will then change his nappy and carry on feeding him. I’ve found by changing his nappy after giving the gaviscon his stomach has had a little bit of time to settle and that helps so much with the projectile vomiting. I have found it make him very constipated and this did make him even fussier and he would practically refuse the gaviscon. Is your baby suffering with that at all? He would still go often but it was like a thick paste so he struggled when he was trying to pass it. He is now on a stool softener and is doing a lot better and takes all his medicine like a champ. I hope that helps and just remember you’re doing great! It’s so tricky seeing your baby suffer, keep up the amazing work mamma!x

OK thanks you will definitely try a smaller feed before and see if that helps. Yeah it did turn her poo into a paste but its gone back to normal now she's refusing it, just trying to figure out if I can cope with leaving her till I can see GP Monday or if it's worth trying to call 111 tomorrow I just can't bare seeing her in pain and don't know if I'm over reacting. Feel like I've been questioning every decision I make since having her!
