It’s a 15 minute drive to my in laws and they are suggesting we visit tomorrow so we don’t have to host for guests visiting from another city.
Feeling a bit anxious about going. Is it too soon to travel? I won’t be driving, I’d be in the back seat with the baby.
When did you all leave the house for non medical reasons.

I was out and about 5 days postpartum.
where did you go if you don’t mind me asking. I don’t know why I feel anxious about leaving the house. Also did it impact your recovery?

I went out and about a couple of days after c section I was absolutely fine but just take it easy it’s tiring.

Totally, I went to the pub for lunch and Costco on day 5 pp.
Go get some fresh air and move your legs x

Went to the mall for the chiropractor 😅 also to the grocery store and out and about walking. Walking helps a lot in recovery! I was up walking around the hospital the morning after my section.
I didn't push myself for too long, about half an hour max for the first little bit, and then lengthen it as I felt stronger.

I was out and about on day 2 and on day 5 we went on a 2.5 hour journey for a baby photoshoot! 🫠

I was out 2 days after 😂! But I felt ok

Physically you should be ok, but if you aren’t up for it mentally then take your time. You say they’re ‘insisting’… girl, you just had a baby. They can make the effort if you aren’t up to it.
here’s the situation. We have some guests coming out of town just to see the baby. My mil suggested, not insisted (that’s my anxiety talking), we come down so we don’t have to host them.
We’ve only had close family visit so far so we’ve been lucky to not have to host for anyone.
The midwife also said I’m alright to go out for some light walking.
I think I’m anxious of anything going wrong with recovery because I’ve heard so much can go wrong and I’m such an over thinker.

I was up and about the following morning and out and about in the car (obviously not driving) the moment I left hospital. I was able to walk around the park with my toddler and baby on day 4. Just go with what you feel comfortable, I was eager to be mobile and felt it helped me with my recovery.

I agree with Sarah... Get yourself out and moving. I believe resguarding yourself at home is what can impact the recovery more than anything. Anyway, if 20 days postpartum you feel not ready at all to be out of the house is always a good idea to talk to someone... if you are in the US 1-833-TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262). I'm not making assumptions here, but I myself called the line before to chat because I felt anxious about my baby... Getting some fresh air is good for you and kiddo. Good luck, sending love 💕
I’m from the UK :) For some reason I just feel very much safe and happy at home. I thought I would miss going out before I had baby but I genuinely just prefer the inside of my house 😂 My husband also thinks I need some fresh air.
Also the roads in the UK are not the best, which is why I worry. But I guess If made it home alright, I’ll be okay if I do decide to go.

I totally get it!! To me, being at home feels safe and also I have this control over everything for me and baby, which is very different when around other people. But cabin fever hits from nowhere and then is a hard path to go back. Maybe make a deal with yourself and go out for 1 hour, if you feel good, you can stay, if you feel uncomfortable/unsafe, you go back home and try again another day

Incog, I was told that mobility is key to a speedy recovery and I honestly think my daily walks and going out for coffee with friends are what made mine so easy and fast. It gets easier the more you move x

I was driving about 3weeks after my section but I felt fine (I'm not trying to boast or suggest you should do this btw) but physically you should be fine, I think your concerns sound more anxiety related? I was also in cafes and out for dinner at about 2-3weeks post section but again I felt it was important for my MH not to just be in the house and also i felt a bit more confident when it came time to taking baby out by myself then.
I also agree with what someone else said: initially you love being in the house and it's safe and warm and comfortable but the cabin fever it's hard and quickly and I think mentally it's not great. I felt much better after leaving the house, even just for short 10min walks, the fresh air made me feel a bit healthier I think.
Your mental health is just as important if not more so than physical health and I you do heal better and quicker if you can do some light exercise and get outdoors if theres no medical reason why you cant
Thank you mamas for all your responses, I truly appreciate it!!!
I went out today and I’m not going to lie the car ride felt really uncomfortable because of the bumpy roads but nothing painful so I was okay.
The only time I hurt myself was when I was getting out the car, it’s a high 4x4, so while I was getting out my feet weren’t touching the ground and I felt a sudden sharp pain on my c-section. It mostly feels normal but it feels slightly sore when lying down. Experiencing some itching on my lower stomach too.
Is that all normal??
I just hope I haven’t done any internal damage to my c-section. Im hoping it’s just muscle pain.

Totally normal to feel stretches and sudden temporary sharp pains if you over stretch. That’s the same for any wound or injury.
Itching can be a sign of lots of things, including nerve regeneration. If you’ve not been very mobile, this might just be the first time your body has been tested and moved more in awkward ways. Lots of things to come back online.
See how you feel tomorrow, stay as mobile as you can to help ease your healing and fasten the process. Just remember to keep an eye out for infection signs (weeping, smells, hot skin) but other than that, hope you had a good day out! X
