Formula hot shot

For those that do the hot shot method for formula, is there any reason why I can't make up the hot shot with the formula, store in the fridge and then top up with boiling/boiled water when LO is ready to drink it? So basically using the remaining hot water to heat the bottle back up if that makes sense lol

I may be wrong but I don’t think the water should be boiling hot, as it then kills some of the nutrients in the formula. From what I’ve been told and read, it should be water that has boiled but then cooled for a bit and is closer to 71°c at the point of being added to the formula

I use colief for my LO and pre make her bottles with perfect prep machine, this uses hot shot method. I then store in the fridge and use within 12 hours but you can keep them for up to 24 hours.

I use a bottle warmer to bring the bottle to room temp and if im out and about hot flask and jug.

My LO absolutely fine. I know a few twin mums who pre make bottles too.....no issues.

the hotshot just needs to always be above 70 degrees, you can absolutely use boiling water straight from the kettle x

From personal experience and from what i got told hot shots (boiling water) are there to kill the nasty bacteria in the formula so once its cooled enough to put in the fridge you could do that i’ve done the exact method like you when my son was younger! X

If you’re going to store it in the fridge anyway you may as well make the whole bottle with boiling water to save faffing around rather than only an oz or 2.

I'm just thinking of doing it at night time because my LO won't drink straight from the fridge anymore lol and it takes too long to heat up a whole bottle without her kicking off x

oh that's good to know, did it cause any issues?

If you’re doing it at night time. All we do is, take a flask full of boiling water to bed, say it’s a 4oz bottle, fill the bottle to the 4oz, pour 2oz into the nuby rapid cool to cool the water to room temp. Put the 4 scoops in the boiling water in the bottle, add the water from the nuby rapid cool then it’s done. If you don’t have a rapid cool, boil a big jug of water in the morning or whenever, let it cool to room temp & take that up with you along with the flask x

Have you looked into a bottle warmer?
I used to keep cooled boiled water in the fridge so ultimately the bottle making took as long as the kettle took to boil as the bottle would be ready to drink straight away when mixing the hot and cold waters.

ohh that’s strange. The tubs of both brands I’ve used (Kendamil and Aptamil) both instruct you to boil the kettle and then to leave the water to cool for 30 minutes before measuring it out into the bottle and adding the required amount of scoops! x

we used to do that with the rapid cool but the water was still too hot to drink. I've heard it's coz the rapid cool is designed to cool down the whole feed not a hot shot xx

yeah our bottle warmer is great in the day time as we can use it before she starts to get hungry so it's ready but it's hard to pre-empt at night! X

I believe they say to cool UP TO 30 mins because they don't want you to burn yourself x
