Our son will be 20 months on the 24th and has 5 clear words and 3-4 mumble/semi-coherent words. And babbles a lot. His pediatrician isn’t worried as long as he adds a few words a month. He very clearly understands full sentences and can identify things by correct/complicated names but he’s not ready to talk yet. A friend’s son didn’t talk much until 2.5 and now he talks non-stop.
I was so worried at 19 months because my son said a handful of words and not very often or consistently. Now the last few weeks (21 mo) he's chatting non stop and up to 3 word sentences. All this to say don't get discouraged! Keep up with talking to him, reading to him and definitely incorporating fun songs! Lots of kids just seem to decide "OK now is the time" and shock you with how much they've been taking in. If still worried by 24mo, let your doctor know and see if you can get a speech therapist to assess but I wouldn't worry too much just yet
My son is turning 2 in July and he’s only babling momma dadda. N buba

Same here! We went to speech therapy but they said his communication was really good in every other way so they weren’t worried!
