Does anyone have any information about milk allergy and breastfeeding? My LO has reflux since about 2 weeks, he’s now 4 weeks we seen a GP who advised fo try wait it out before going on omeprazole as it can just be a developmental thing and Gaviscon seems to make him constipated- but this is more that just sick, he makes awful noises in the night, grunting, wheezing coughing, arched back after feeds it just seems to be getting worse. I just wonder if this could be a milk allergy and how long after cutting out diary may I see a difference? My LO is also cluster feeding a lot I think to soothe but it ends up in a bit of a cycle as he is then really uncomfortable again not sure what’s best to do 😫 . It’s so upsetting seeing him so uncomfortable and upset and nighttime’s are so hard having to keep him upright after feeding, by the time he is burps and held upright and put back down it’s only 30 mins before he wakes again 🥲 I’m not sure how long il survive with nights like that!

Following as we are having the same issues at just 2 weeks. Night times are awful and the noises give me such anxiety. The GP just told us he was mucusy and to burp for longer or try infantol. Agree that you can barely get through before it starts over again and no time for rest

We have been given gaviscon and lactulose to combat the constipation and it seems to work really well. Our LO is bottle and formula fed and we did see all of the above symptoms before having both medications. if it is CMPA surely after cutting dairy you'd notice a difference within 48hrs or so??? Unsure on that but personal experience with my LO having reflux and being in gaviscon you may also need a laxative as well? So maybe speak to GP again? And if not better then maybe ask to look into CMPA?
We also do use dentinox which is same as infacol to also rule out colic symptoms.

It can take 2 weeks to get out of their system and you notice a difference, that’s why they advise you to try any treatment for 2 weeks before making any other changes, I’m going through it all with one of my twins and my 2 year old son had the same issues when he was newborn x

My little one has a cow milk allergy and they told me it would take 4-6 weeks for it to work out of my breast milk completely. Obviously every day you aren’t eating dairy the amount reduces in your milk therefore they will be getting less and less. Unfortunately unless you switch to a prescription formula (in which it’s out of the babies system in 1-2 weeks) it’s a waiting game 😞
thank you! I’ve been off dairy for a couple days but going to continue and hopefully see more of a difference, I will also go and ask about the laxative, thank you!
oh wow that seems like quite a long time 😞 hopefully il start to see some improvements at least as time goes on, thank you for the reply ☺️

With milk it could be two key things, either cows milk protein allergy (that’s where you would cut out all dairy) or lactose intolerance.
Lactose intolerance is more common but lactose is in human milk so no need to cut out dairy. You can try lactase drops to help them digest the milk.
If it’s CMPA, you’d have to cut out all dairy and you may not see any improvement for 4 weeks depending on the recovery of their gut as well as it being out of your system.

Hey having this exact same issue! 😭 can you share any advice on how it’s going now ? X
hi! I spoke to the infant feeding team at my local hospital and they were really helpful compared to HV and GP! I’ve decided to continue to cut out dairy they advised for 2 weeks and see if that’s helps or not then slowly re introduce. They didn’t really recommend using Gaviscon or anything as this usually makes symptoms worse like constipation but I’d say give them a call if you have a team locally 😌 also she said to look up infant dyschezia, this was exactly how my little one was at night so this helped ease my worries around thoise behaviours too. Hope this helps, it’s really tough! X

Aaw thank you so much for the info! Update for me too, baby had a tongue tie that reattached so we have to go get that checked. Also was prescribed gavison, I keep it nearby incase but instead opted for gripe water as a natural remedy and it has HELPED!! I used it 2x yesterday and after a feed with a syringe inside a teat and it really did help 🥹 the symptoms are much less. Also his bed is on an incline
oh that’s good to know I actually got some gripe water yesterday but yet to use it so will give that a try thank you ☺️☺️
