Maternity leave or work from home

I currently work full time doing social media and marketing for a hotel. I can’t decide if I should take the full year for maternity leave to have quality time with baby or request to work from home part time after a few months. We’re also trying to save to build a house so needed extra income. Any advice?

Do you know whether your request to work part time from home would be accepted? As if not that might help make your decision? X

Depends on what mat leave you're entitled to? Have you costed it all up? X

When you mention working from home part time, would you have your baby with you during that time? If so, check with your employer as most don't allow to work from home while looking after a baby (from a health and safety perspective if the baby had an accident because you were working they could get in trouble), plus it's not easy trying to work with a baby around. So something to take into consideration:)

I’m entitled 12 weeks 90% pay and then to SMP for 9 months

And are you thinking you'll use the full 12 weeks first?

Good - have you got any extra AL you could use?

Nice - like the other commentor has said - I would just consider actual ability to WFH with a baby as I don't think it's advisable.
Would recommend Nugget Savings on Instagram - they give great advice about matleave x

I would say it’s probably going to be really difficult to work from home with a 3 month old and most works don’t allow it, you also probably won’t have the time to give them the stimulation they need (I know they sleep a lot) but as they get older they’re gonna need more attention and you helping them to learn and develop and if you’re working it’s gonna make it harder and the day very boring for the bubba x
