Smear test results

I’m wondering if anyone else had had these same results and what happened next with them.

I had my smear test 6 months post having a baby. I’m 25 years old. I’ve got positive high risk hpv and high grade abnormal cells (CIN 2).

I’m so anxious and so scared I have cancer. Has anyone got any reassurance or been in a similar situation?

Hi, try not to worry too much. I had CIN3 and I know how easy it is to fear the worst. You'll get invited for a colposcopy where they'll see how big the area of abnormal cells are and take a biopsy to check for other levels of abnormalities. I was told that for grade 2, they tend to leave and monitor them as they normally revert back. I was offered a loop excision where they remove the area. It was a little uncomfortable but not too bad. The cancer researcher website is really helpful at explaining what the grade of cells mean and what treatment is offered if any

Honestly though don't worry. Just because you have abnormal cells doesn't mean they're cancerous x

My last smear said stage 2 moderate and when they did my colposcopy it was stage 1 mild so I'd wait and see what the colposcopy says, often they might do a biopsy and remove the cells, then review in 6 months depending on results or further treatment (lletz loop).
It's awful the waiting and not knowing but the positive is they've detected it early so you'll be checked regularly and they can do things to prevent it getting worse. I've been on this cycle for 5 years now and i still get really down when I have to go back for cplposcopy!
