Royal London Hospital Experiences?

I’ve self referred myself at Royal London, and haven’t heard yet. I’m 6 weeks today. Any experiences with them and their birthing centre?

Congratulations! I had two positive experiences with RLH, specifically with the Lotus Birth Centre in April 2021 and just this Feb. Happy to answer questions.

I left at 12 weeks. They don’t let men in a lot of the areas also no children allowed. My partner wasn’t even allowed to sit with me in the waiting area. It was a strange hospital. Idk why they all called each other sister exactly but it seemed like it had a religious aspect to it. I went to UCLH 3 times now and it’s a great hospital.

I’m registered with the hospital now. When I’ve done the self registration I guess they lost my application. I called them when I was 10 weeks pregnant and then they found my documents. My suggestion is call them when you are 8 weeks. Doctors, midwives are so friendly till now. My husband was always with me as well but yes they are saying no children allowed.

Also I asked people’s experiences in London group about the hospital. There were a lot of comments. You can also have a look. All the best 😊

@Jessica aren’t sisters supposed to be the most senior nurses? I think it’s an historical name that stuck around. Re men not allowed, not sure what services you went to but often men aren’t allowed in Early Assessment units (not the normal midwife unit) because that’s where they are dealing also with sexual violence and terminations. Also they aren’t allowed in 1 (or 2) regular midwife appointments because the hospital wants to create a space for victims of domestic violence to be alone and be able to speak. Annoying but all good reasons. I have no experience with the RLH but I think this is generic to the NHS operating standards.

I registered with London Hospital last Monday, didn't hear anything, then called this Wednesday only to learn that they never received my self-referral. The next day as I was leaving to go to Barking Birth Centre to register there, I noticed a letter had come about an appointment for London Hospital. My pregnancy increased my zero tolerance for bs so I got annoyed and went to register in Barking anyway. If I end up high risk down the line I can go back to London Hospital, but for the moment I'm staying local. From my experience, I'd say just wait another few working days - your letter could be on its way to you.

@Ana no they aren’t allowed on the units. Unless they are going straight from the hallway to your room. When you wait for a regular midwife appointment or ultrasound all men wait in the hallway and you go out to get them and bring them to your room. Also I think the sister thing comes from nuns because I read something since I commented this that seemed to be saying that.
