Newborn sticky eye

Put a little bit of breast milk on the eye! It will be gone by tomorrow. I’ve had to do it a couple times for my little one when she was first born. Works almost instantly x

@Shannon I will try this how many times a day do I need to do this? Do you put alot on? Does it need to go in the eye? I just use a cotton pad and wipe that over his eye is that ok?

I did it just a couple of times and I wiped it over the eye with a cotton pad x

We did breastmilk and cooled boiled water to clean it, it took 5 weeks but has finally cleared!!

With breastmilk I just do it after a feed and squirt straight in the eye 😂 and then wipe away anything that goes over their face

You can also try saline wipe with a cotton ball regularly if you are formula feeding. I did that with my first one.

Try adding a bit of salt to the water when you boil it, that’s what we did, recommend by pharmacist . Helps it dry out and we found it worked quicker than breastmilk

Keep bathing it daily with cool boiled water, however if you notice any redness at all around the eye or inside get it checked. I left my little girl for a couple of weeks with one gunky eye reading that it was probably just a blocked tear duct, but ended up taking her to the doctors as there was no improvement and she was given eye drops. It then appeared in her other eye too, but the drops cleared it up so quickly and was a life saver! X

My LO had/has this. We took him to Drs as was told by HV conjunctivitis in newborns may cause eye issues down the line, Dr said to keep using cooled boiled water and cotton buds at least 2x daily or when really gunky (it cleared up in a week) x

Update… I used my breast milk on a cotton pad on his eye and honestly it stopped watering and gunk the next day. I only applied it twice and it worked wonders! Thank you all 😘
