I am currently pregnant with my first baby. I am lucky everyone I have shared the news with so far all seems very excited for me. One thing that did have me curious is that 5 people I have shared the news with have said they always saw me as a "boy mum". Can anyone explain what that means and why someone comes across like one?

I’ve been told the same i was told i seem more like a boy mum even before we knew the gender! the people that i asked how i seem more like a boy mum just said because im not really “girly”🤣they all said yeah i do makeup and hair but other than that i dont “dress girly” or “act very girly” and there’s the stereotype that boys are naughty and rough and i just got told it seems like i can deal with all that 🤣 it doesn’t make sense to me at all to me sometimes it feels like people are saying if i was to have a girl i’d be a rubbish mum as im more of a “boy mum”
Ok I can see how I don't dress overly girly so that might be it. And I guess make up and hair like with my clothes I keep it fairly basic... I was confused as none of my hobbies or interests are male leaning. Yes I game from time to time but usually cozy casual games, or puzzle games etc so I was really confused as I never saw myself as s tomboy type but maybe it is me not being over the top girly that has made people see me as a "boy mum"

I wouldn't overthink it. I'm the absolute definition of what should be a boy mum, I don't wear make up, I love sports and am definitely an all around tomboy. I had a daughter and I haven't forced her to follow me. I let her play with/ wear what she likes. She loves pink, loves princesses, but will still kick a ball with her mumma. Makes no odds what people think about you 😊
yeah trying to not read too much into it. Just got me curious as I really never acted like a tomboy so I was just surprised by the comment.

Maybe because your hobbies aren't "girly". I honestly don't know. But whichever gender baby you're having I'm sure you'll let them be who they are naturally. I personally have an absolutely wild child who loves jumping and climbing, but also loves playing dress up and taking her dolls for a walk. We all adapt 😊
oh totally. Not going to force any stereotypes onto my baby just like my parents did with me. Thing is hobbies wise (miniture photography and making, doll photography and wanting to pick up sewing too) are more girly leaning which is why I was taken by surprise. Then again I do tend to keep my hobbies private. So I guess it's that the comment was made just based on my dress and style sense and how I generally come across
also good you are leaving your girl so much freedom to just be herself. I love that

I got told the same "can see you as a boy mum" guess what? We're having a girl 🤣🤣
My only assumption would be because I've never been the standard "girly girl" 🤷♀️ but never been particularly a tomboy either so 😅
I am actually having a boy here lol. My husband did say if I had said we are having a girl they would have said they always seen me as a girl mum and to not over think it... Lol

I got told this and when I asked they literally went "you're a lads girl all your friends are men bar two women, you go to the pub drink beer, follow American football like it's life or death and used to play it too you're girly with hair and makeup but that's it youre one of the lads a boy would be perfect for you" and it made sense. My partner and I joke I'll be more of the dad to our son as I'll happily take him to football matches play football with him etc whereas my partner can't stand it 😂
