Hi ladies! My baby boy is 4.5 weeks old and had some jaundice at the start of life, had to have phototherapy for 1 day at the hospital. Since then his levels have stabilised and he is fine again but still has yellow eyes and a slightly yellow tinged nose. He is exclusively BF. I didn’t realise the yellowness would last this long? I am planning on speaking to health visitor tomorrow but just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this?

with my first, he had what’s called breastfeeding jaundice and it lasted about 10 weeks. Was harmless, just took a while to clear. We had to go in for two blood tests just to check his levels were decreasing.

We had the same thing with our little boy. He was born at 37w and needed light therapy at the hospital for one night and home for two. It lasted at least a week or two until it passed. The more they poop, the better, as that’s how they flush the jaundice out basically but do get it checked if you’re still worried xx

My little girl had breastfeeding jaundice for I think about 5/6 weeks then it settled almost overnight. But she never needed treatment for hers so as you’ve said mention it to HV

It should have passed by now, would actually call your GP, you will likely need some more tests to rule put any other causes. It can just be from breast milk but there are some other things that can cause it that would require treatment xxx

Following 🙏🏻. What additional tests did people have to confirm it was breastmilk jaundice? My son’s levels are still tiny bit elevated at 3 weeks old, they want to brush it off to breastmilk just like that 🥹. I am scared…

they measured her levels using some type of ‘gun’ thing but otherwise nothing. There is no way to confirm if it’s due to breastmilk, it’s mainly just if jaundice is present but under treatment levels (and you’re breastfeeding of course). It’s easier said than done but really try not to worry, my little girl is 11 weeks now and it’s been gone for weeks (I think since about 6 weeks?). As long as they’re keeping an eye on it I’m sure he’ll be just fine
