Just intrigued. We haven’t given it to our little one yet due to the advice but I’ve noticed a fair few people have introduced it.

I believe to give everything in moderation, and feel it’s a bit pot kettle black if I said no whilst eating myself. I waited until after 12 months and it is a limited intake not very much a day or 2 a week max I do draw the line at sweeties I don’t give those

To be honest I didn’t know there was a suggested age for chocolate.
I’ve given my boy chocolate but it’s not every day and a certain amount. I can’t be too strict on it because I know my parents would just sneak some chocolate to him anyway 😂
Also I had a family member that was very strict with sweets till her son was old enough to buy food himself and he doesn’t have the healthiest relationship with food and I honestly think it was because of the restriction for so long. Xx

I agree with everything in moderation.
I was very particular about waiting until my eldest son was 1, but then with my youngest I was a bit more relaxed, mostly because the older one was having it which meant naturally my youngest wanted it too, and I chose to pick my battles for more important matters!
they recommend not to give them sugar or salt before the age of 2, not entirely sure why but we’ve been trying to stick to it.
do you worry that restricting it will have a negative effect on his diet in the future, such as binge eating or treating chocolate like this forbidden delicacy? I worry about this with my little girl as we don’t feel she needs to have it yet but she has had the odd taste of ice cream and cake. Very occasional though

Mine (16 months) had some chocolate for the first time yesterday, for Easter - and about 2 sq centimetres of it today. He didn’t seem overly excited by it. I probably would have preferred to wait longer, mainly for teeth reasons! So I’m glad he didn’t seem too fussed by it :)

Everything in moderation here! Luckily I have a 4 year old who doesn’t like chocolate so we don’t really have much in the house but my daughter had some white chocolate buttons over Easter. The way I see it is we control what she eats so it’s harmless. I had a friend at school whose parents were horrendously strict with food and she now has a terrible relationship with it. A little sugar and salt won’t hurt. X
Thanks all for your answers. I guess ultimately it’s up to us to teach our children about healthy eating and things in moderation. I do think I’ll still wait until she’s a bit older and I don’t feel she’s missing out at the moment, but no harm no foul as they say.

I don’t buy her any unhealthy food but she does have a bite of my biscuit when I have a cuppa and some of my crisps every now and then, can’t eat in peace anymore 🤣
