Weight gain for 5ft tall ladies?

I have always had an issue with my body and my weight. Pre-pregnancy I was 56kg / 123lb. I’m 20w1d today and I’m 66.5kg! I have avoided weighing myself for weeks because it triggers me but my anomaly scan is today and I wasn’t sure if I needed to know my weight. How much weight gain is normal for short women? The NHS website says up to 12.5kg can be gained during pregnancy but I’m already at 10kg! Barely eating more than I used to and it’s all healthy homecooking, loads of fruit and veggies.. just feeling really low about it and want to know I’m normal 😩

My cousin was around your height and gained 20kg over her pregnancy. She lost it all afterwards and looks great.
I'm a similar stage to you and every time I see the scale go up part of me winces a bit, old eating disordered thinking starts to creep in to ruin my day 🤦🏼‍♀️😅
Sounds like you're doing the right thing focusing on eating good nutritious food which is important for your baby 💓 be kind to yourself

Hey, this is something I struggle with as well! I’m 5ft 2 and have battled with my weight for years (lost 3 stone 2 years ago and so anxious about putting it back on), so putting on weight during pregnancy and seeing your body change can be difficult.

Just remember though, most of this weight is everything to keep your baby safe and growing healthily: Amniotic fluid, baby (of course!), placenta, growing uterus, increased blood supply, breast tissue, water and some fat which is protection. All this can add up to around 12kg alone! The important thing to remember (and I still remind myself) is that your body is doing incredible things right now to grow and protect your baby and that’s the most important thing! This is all temporary so be kind to yourself and continue eating as you have been and never compare yourself to other women! We all grow and change differently and that’s ok 😊 x

I’m 21 weeks and have put on 10kg already too! I’m 5”2 and my pre pregnancy weight was around 55kg
I think it’s normal when we’re petite, I’m sure we will lose all the baby weight after! Xx

I'm on the same boat, 55/56kg pre-pregnancy, now 63kg. I'm not eating as healthy as I could and another massive problem is that I stopped any activity due to a mix of winter+pregnancy symptoms. I've now come back from holiday, days are longer and I made it a commitment to be more active. Weight hasn't shifted but definitely the way I look at myself is more positive. With my first pregnancy I hadn't gained all this weight, I had only gained 10kg in the full 9 months which is what is worrying me the most! Hopefully the summer months will help us with a less radical weight gain 🤞

I was 59kg pre-pregnancy, although this was following a huge personal weight loss. At my heaviest I was over 80kg. I've chosen not to weigh myself during this pregnancy as I know mentally it wouldn't do me any good personally. I also try to avoid looking when the midwife weighs me, just for myself. I'm very motivated to start losing it once baby is born though!

I would really take the weight gain guidelines with a pinch of salt! As long as you’re not eating crazy and risking gestational diabetes by eating loads of crap in the name of eating for 2, then your body is probably just doing what it needs to :) I think our bodies know how much fat we need to store for breastfeeding and to protect the baby etc and just as we are all different shapes and sizes with different sized bumps and pregnancy boobs, the “expected” weight gain will vary significantly from one person to the next so I wouldn’t worry at all!

Thank you for all the kind comments! I try so hard to not let my old eating habits creep in, I’m still fitting in my size 8 clothes but have this really overwhelming feeling being so heavy! Going to start walking again now we have better weather and hope I feel better in myself 😊 on the plus side my anomaly scan today went great and our baby boy is growing perfectly 🩵

I’m similar to you, 23 weeks tomorrow and I’ve gained 10kg so far, I was 57kg pre pregnancy and I’m not 67kg. Eaten normally and healthy. I’m not worried about it, this is my second pregnancy and first time round I lost it all in the first few months xx
