I went to my 20 week check up today and I found out that my cervix is shortening. They told me the best option to save my baby and let him back longer is a cervical cerclage. I’m most nervous about the spinal anesthesia. Anyone experienced this before ?

I have. I had my cerclage at 19 weeks. It’s definitely a scary procedure but more common than you think. The surgery itself is 10-15min, the spinal block is similar to an epidural… just don’t look at the needle. I had never been in an operating room, so that made it all the more scarier, but it’ll be okay.
Your downtime after the surgery will be about a week or more with some spotting. Did they suggest progesterone as well? Sometimes it’s recommended to insert post surgery to help lengthen the cervix. From now until you give birth, your cervix will shrink and grow, so don’t be alarmed about fluctuations. Reach out if you have any questions!

thank you so much. I’m going to go through with it. At how many weeks did they take the stitches out and when did you go into labor

typically they take the stitches out around 36 / 37 weeks. My baby couldn’t wait and came earlier, but he’s healthy and well!
