Back story: I have an almost 21 month old son, my due date for my new baby was April 23rd, but scheduled for a C Section on April 16th (39 weeks) .
Yesterday 4/4/24, I was 37w2d. Been having Braxton hicks contractions for a month or so. Very light, far apart and irregular.
The night before on 4/3, I was fine. I did the dishes, cleaned the living room from my toddlers toys and all. I slept around 1am, slept through the night ( very rare) until 7:40am when hubby started getting ready for work.
Woke to a small wet stain in bed, stood upright away to go pee, noticed I was dripping. Told my hubby that I think my water broke. Stood in the shower and continued to drip, even after I peed. Then it stopped. Called my clinic, they said it must be discharge if is stops and goes. Water breaking does not stop at all.
8-10am, I try to go back to sleep, but BH started to feel more painful/noticeable but still irregular. So I’m like, let’s just prepare lol. I finished packing my suitcase, hubby quickly set up the bassinet and installed the infant car seat in the car.
By noon, I was still able to eat and play with my toddler while still having contractions. At 2pm I went I go nap (while my toddler naps) . I could not nap! My hubby was WFH so I didn’t want to disturb or startle him until things were unbearable. I continued to clean, organize, pack as much as I can since baby will be in our bedroom.
Here’s where things sped up.
3:14pm hubby brought me food to eat. I couldn’t eat : lost appetite and was uncomfortable. Contractions were coming 6, 5, 11, 3 mins apart. So irregular.
4:30pm, pain was like a 6.5/10 . 5:15, I puked the food I was trying to eat
5:30 I shower and told hubby that we have to go in. Trembling during these contractions. Standing, sitting, walking, all 4s, nothing was helping. I was in labor. Dr gave us the ok to go to labor and delivery.
6:40pm/ get to the hospital but had to pull
over so I can puke again, which tasted acidic.
Got in quickly. By 7:02, I was already 5 cm dialated. I’m about out of my mind at this point and don’t understand what was asked of me or what was said. Plus I puked again. Thankfully my hubby was involved with everything.
Dr asked me if I still wanted to do c section but she thought I was a good candidate for vbac and I was already in labor. I was so confused lol I had no plan , I did not physically or mentally prep to give birth vaginally lol. I said let me think about. BUT I still wanted an epidural.
Around 8:30pm, the anesthesiologist finally came in because the hospital was so busy and he waited for my blood test results to come back first.
While I was given the epidural, I had a couple of contractions; it was so hard to sit still. Then, I had to puke again ! The anesthesiologist had to stop and start over when I was done. I think this was when things got mixed up. Either the delay in starting the epidural , or having to start over. The epidural did Not Work At All !!!
I was so frantic, like when is it going to kick in ?? I kept rubbing hot packs on my hips and back because that’s where I felt the most pain. I bet I looked like a mad woman rubbing my the packs and slow/deep breathing ( this was key by the way)
9:10am I get checked. 10 cm dialated, baby’s head is down. Nurse was like, girl, you’re ready to go! You are even over dialated, contractions are intense and close together, baby is in position ! The time for the epidural to activate and/or the OR room to be set up for c section is non existent.Im like, sure yeah, just tell me what I have to do ! lol. (With my first son, I was induced, had the epidural, and didn’t get a chance to push because he wasn’t responding to contractions well. So it ended in an energy section) Dr gave the green light, but did not arrive yet.
9:15 ish I push for 10 seconds 3 times while holding my breath during contractions. Then I rest in between contractions. Hubby and nurse were there holding my legs up to my shoulders and encouraging me. We did this about 3 times when I felt the crowning. I couldn’t rest in between contractions because of the tightness and stretching. The slow controlled breathing went out the window. I was out of breath, exhausted and had a headache. I had some screams but when the head popped out, it was easy from there.
9:39pm. 6lbs 6 oz, 17.5 inches. Baby #2 was born. It was so magical. I had to be stitched up a lil, but I felt so weak but strong at the same time.
We are doing all right, I did experience some side affects from the failed epidural , headache, neck and spine pain. The anesthesiologist came in this morning to do a blood path. He drew blood then gave me an epidural again with the blood I believe. I’m still feeling aches though.
Baby boy is still getting the hang of latching on, has some fluid in his ears, but he’s so peaceful and precious. Thank you God
