What’s reasonable for child support. For how many kids is it reasonable for?
My ex BD /ex husband has NEVER taken care of us only played one game nothing else, didn’t cook /feed, clean/change, bathe our children . He asked me to put him on child support through the court so it would be legit. So I did and he didn’t show up to the hearing and then gets pissed off saying he never said to do this. 🤌🏻 the physical text says otherwise… but I didn’t do anything out her then answer where he lives, how many children he has (documents and all) and all my documents from my job and what I pay for. Nothing else. So this is for TWO children. It is $677 a month he hasn’t paid so they enforced it 5 times now they held him in contempt of child support since he just hasn’t made any payments in over a year and keeps leaving his jobs when he gets one so they can’t take his money. Went as far as going to his first daughter’s mother(she lost custody due to ALOT of drugs) gave her full permission to claim their daughter so he would have the money and not have it go to child support.
I want to know how much people really think it is to take care of a CHILD per month.

My kids dad pays £120 a month for 2 kids xx

Of course, he's gonna say that it's ridiculous amount. Well his antics and behavior are ridiculous. Man up and pay the child support. Or don't have kids. That's what's wrong with boys. They won't grow up and will continue to act like a child. It's more than 677 a month to take care of children .

If that’s what the courts have decided he need to pay that’s on him. Shouldn’t have been a piss poor parent to your kids.

my baby daddy didn’t pay me anything..

I think it depends on how much he earns, 800 seems like a lot to me but if he’s earning well above that then I suppose that is reasonable? If not, u have to consider that the man has to be able to live and pay his own bills in order to be able to pay any child support, I know it might not seem fair but he can’t pay money he doesn’t have?

800 is not too much. What are we doing girl math now. It cost way more than that a month. And if you dont food stamps or wic or cash assistance, you very well spend that alone in formula and diapers.

If he pays 800/mo and the courts decided that, he must make a lot of money. As far as how mucha kid cost, I'd say plus or minus $500 extra per month per parent for a middle class kid in America. This assumes no public assistance.

It's not up to you or him on what he should pay its up to the court. Good luck

I say that is a fair amount kids need clothes/food/shoes/allowance money /field trip money etc

250 ain’t enough for nothing now a days

It really depends on the age of the kids and what’s needed. Right now, my daughter’s daycare is $1000 a month so I would expect half or more but I know my bd makes good money and they do typically base it off their income. If the court gave him a # , it’s usually because of the reported income.

There needs to be enough money leftover at the end of the month for him to live as well. When my ex and I went to mediation for CS, the mediator tried telling us that he had to pay me $800 for one kid. He already pays $1000 per month for his other son. So $1800 per month total when he only brings home maybe $2100, leaving him with $300 per month to live?! That’s just disrespectful and inhumane

Most jurisdictions have guidelines based on income

Take this back to court as evidence of refusal to pay. Embarrassing for him that he's refusing to provide for his own child the courts will laugh at him. They've clearly decided on 800 based on his income they wouldn't do it if he couldn't afford it

I feel like men don't pay attention to what these people say when they set up the amount they need to pay what he gets paid is all taken into consideration if u have 1 child it's 12% 2 children it's 16% 3 it's 19% so if that's only at most 20% of his pay what exactly is he paying for that takes that much priority over his children

If he’s going to actually end up homeless paying that amount, than I’d say it’s unethical to ask him to do that. Putting him on the street in the name of your children is wrong and one day they might look at you crazy for doing that to their dad - even if he is a POS.
That being said, my husband used to pay $1,600 a month for his two kids

courts go off of their reported income 🥱… so clearly to have to pay that much he makes well OVER 800 a month. Even in a week. He asked to go thru child support court smh.

But I’d say the better approach here might be to just terminate his rights and move the hell on without him or the money that he doesn’t pay

I literally did this man’s taxes and had full access to all bank accounts for 10 years. I sat there when the calculations were done and turned down their estimate, instead settling on $350 per month. Kids aren’t a paycheck, and since he already covers medical insurance and we share default 50/50 custody, there’s no need to use CS as a vindictive means of getting back at him for a failed relationship. Yawn react all you want, but obviously unless you live in the state of Delaware you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

So now it's not ok for men to pay a certain amount because of the possibility of being homeless. It's absolutely ridiculous. Mom's asking for child support will be homeless alot faster when child support isn't coming through and that 1 job doesn't pay any bills. But that's OK right. Boys need to grow up and act like men and take responsibility for their child then there would be no need for child support. (Same goes for dead beat moms)

honestly I feel like it won’t and he’s just being manipulative.

did you read what she wrote? I’m lost. She liters SAID he asked her to go to child support court to figure out an amount so they could take it out, that wasn’t her idea. Now he wants to renig that… when in reality he also CHOSE to not show up to the same court date he requested! How is she being vindictive?!

Between insurance, child care, food, clothing, etc it’s more than $600 to care for a child and if the court decided $600 is what is good enough for him to pay then he should pay it

Child care alone is more than 800.

if he’s not at legit risk of homelessness then he’s really an asshole trying to cheat the system.
I stand by what I said. It’s not ethical to require so much child support that it puts the payer on the street. Moms have plenty of resources available to them to prevent homelessness. Men that aren’t primary parents do not have access to those same resources. Read some of the comments, one man would’ve only had $300 left per month after paying child support. Is that okay? That’s 100% going to lead to homelessness and it’s completely unethical.

CS goes by what the parent makes. If they put him down for $677, it's what he can handle to pay. He needs to be more responsible with his money and pay for the kids he created. You pay more than that plus time so he got off easy...

@Brittany men have the same resources as woman do. That's not an excuse.

yeah I think this guy in particular is a system cheater and there’s really nothing she can do to change that unfortunately. However, courts don’t always look at the leftover amounts so it is possible to have very skewed numbers. Again, my husband was paying $1,600 and that was court determined. No way in hell was he making that much to justify that amount when it was decided

it's all decided by the court so unless he's paying for unnecessary things in no way should anyone be at risk of homelessness it's all looked at and the price he pays is all added up by how much he gets paid if he was on the verge on homelessness he alone can go to the court to get the price changed because no one is actually allowed to pay more than they can afford if they are all of that can be sorted very quickly by even just him alone with a phone call

that part. Keeps leaving jobs to avoid paying . Bingo. He csn he just doesn't want to

yes, I’m sure that’s how the system is intended but things do fall through the cracks. Amounts are not automatically reconfigured when another child is added to the picture, for example.

That’s why they should wrap up their willy or help without questioning so it wouldn’t have to be taken to court.

no they don’t and I’m not going back and forth. Women with children always have more resources available to them than men without children. For example, I volunteer at a shelter there’s a lady right now overstaying a six week limit and the only reason she’s not being kicked out is because she has children with her. Men are housed here too but there’s not a single one here because they have kids here right now. So again, I’m not going back and forth but you should understand that the parent with the children has more resources available to them

He should pick up another job to make ends meet in my opinion

It's funny how a man who asked to be put on child support but changes his job to avoid paying is getting defended by some. It's crazy. If he was man enough to have children, then he's man enough to deal with the consequences of not providing for them properly.

if another child is added to the picture he should have strapped up cause why have more if u say u can't afford the ones u have things fall through the cracks yes but that's why u need to sort it he's grown he should be capable of making a phone call to request a change in pricing and to request them look at how much he actually gets paid if he was on the verge of homelessness then the court genuinely can't allow that but only if he does what he's suppost to do and not take it up with someone who genuinely can't change a thing for him if u can't afford kids strap up if u on the verge of homelessness paying an amount that's court ordered based on the amount that u get paid then that must mean that he is paying for things he doesnt need it's all split up into sections his housing the things he's paying for like entertainment (Netflix and so on) food and nessesitys plus his own personal spending then comes what he can afford for his kids

@Kianna crazy thing is if you leave a job purposely to avoid paying, they will likely make him continue the same payment. Atp homeboy will be making less money and paying same CS payments...

nobody is defending him girl

A million dollars. 😂 idcidc

I can’t 🤣 💀

Speaking from experience, they go off what you make they do not consider the rent you have to pay or anything else . All they go off is how much you make and I would say that’s not fair 🤔 but that doesn’t matter because if he was doing what he was supposed to do , this wouldn’t be his situation. $250 is not enough to take care of a child in a month so no . Maybe you guys can agree on an arrangement that works for you both but if he’s an ass and is going to take advantage of the situation then no let him suffer with whatever the judge has decided.

things fall through the cracks yes but I feel like you've overestimated how often that actually happenes a lot of people actually quit their jobs to avoid child support and they claim homelessness to be able to have side hussles to be able to live without being registered as working that's why you'll see a lot of people talk about how child support ruined their lives because they realised that some of the time if the courts catch on that you've left your work on purpose then the price might not change

@Charli say that louder please!!!!!!!!

I’m not talking about those losers

Child support is a way to reduce fatherhood to dollars. Being a father is much more than that. The American court system is inherently wicked and self-serving. Child Support Enforcement and government entities will charge the payor a percentage of every child support payment. Essentially, you'd think the government would recuse itself from over-stepping into the family's relationship due to this conflict of interest. It is more lucrative to split up families and create lifelong bitterness and deep rifts by making one parent a financial hostage. It will be nearly impossible to not tarnish a relationship for life. The fathers text message says he's willing to pay a reasonable amount of money to mom to support kids. He doesn't ask to get government involved. He is now a hostage for the next 21 years. Some people will spiral and break under the emotional stress of a seemingly insurmountable financial obstacle. For an in-tack family, if your monthly budget is $250-$500 for the kids, then you make adjustments.

You could say that you’re willing to go to court again? Ask him to take it to court so you can negotiate there. Not fair for him to put it on you like that, especially as he hasn’t been reliable with paying as it is. I wouldn’t come to any agreement with him that isn’t done legally so he can’t hold it over you. He already has lied about telling you to take it to court, who knows what else he might lie about. Not worth the risk in my opinion. The amount is completely subjective, nobody here knows what his income in. If he appeals it in court and they decide the same number then that’s what he should pay. I’m sure you are paying a lot more out of pocket than that for the children, don’t let him make you feel guilty and just remove yourself and emotions from the situation as much as possible. If he wants any sort of negotiation, make sure it’s always official and legal. Look after yourself first because he hasn’t been looking after you!

you'd be surprise dhow many ppl can't afford a 20% extra bill due to the not managing their money right. He probably bought more car or house than he can afford.

kids are indeed paychecks. Walking, talking, breathing bills. $350/mo ain't doing anything. At minimum, raising a child middle class in America is gonna run $1100/mo plus or minus over the lifespan of a child. Half and half of that is $550 per parent.

I honestly think 250$ a month is reasonable child support is for the kids needs not yours I would even say 300$ a month
I have 2 kids kids aren't that expensive it depends on what you prioritize and how you choose to spend your money
Depends on what he makes a year you can request whatever you think is necessary but this doesn't mean you'll get it judge will look at a lot of different things some of those things
Who the children primary live with
What you make a year
What he makes a year
Who pays kids insurance/medical bills
Where do and who do the kidd live with if you all still live together probably not going to get child support
What can you prove with hard evidence without evidence it's your word vs his or just seen as hear say
Divorce and family court can get messy so be ready for your skeletons to come out of the closet just like your going to try and expose his he'll do the same to you
He might even try and down play things and try to make you look bad he could even try for full custody

babe u dont actually know what your talking about he could very well be one of those loosers at the end of the day if u do what your supposed to do 99.5/100% of the time u will not fall through any cracks it happenes yes but it's an easy fix no one will be made homeless from any child support if they have then that's genuinely not allowed and that person could probably put in a claim and be making more than all of us put together most people who have became homeless whilst paying child support have done that to themselves purposely to avoid the payments and it's worked for them what u should be concerned about is the amount of “homeless” people who are living better than all of us whilst not paying a dime to their own children
