My little one is 3 weeks old and has the most horrendous nappy rash, his skin has broken down completely raw and he’s in agony when changing his nappy, we’ve tried everything metamium, sudosalve, hydrocortisone does anyone have any recommendations we seen the out of hours gp today who didn’t have any other advice and told us to see our own gp to have a swab taken on Monday to check for an infection but I feel like I need to do something in the meantime

Can you see a pharmacist? Maybe something more natural would be better. If possible leave him with his nappy off for a while on a towel or something? The air getting to it might be a good idea. Hope he's ok sounds awful for him x

Tried the pharmacy they just recommended the same things, nappy free time is constant I’ve never been covered in so much wee in my life 😂 I feel so sorry for the wee soul

We use bepanthen helped loads with out little one xx

Maybe swap brands of nappy. We used boots own for a bit and they fit perfectly however caused rashes and we've since used pampers and Aldi and no issues.

If your breastfeeding try using your breastmilk and plenty of nappy free time xx

We swear by bepanthen and use Aldi Nappies on Rosalie. Hope it clears up soon for him x

Not sure if you've tried this but if you're using wipes, switch to plain cooled boiled water and cotton pads.

Breast milk if you can 🙌🙌

Thanks everyone ! Switched to cooler boiled water and cotton wool last week and hasn’t helped, Will try a wee breast milk bath tonight and I’ve got some bepanthen to try and see if that makes a difference xx

My baby has nappy rash and we was admitted to hospital (not because of that) and they gave me bepanthen and then 30 minutes after applying that apply metanium. They are both nappy rash ointments and my little ones bum has already gone less red and starting to calm the area down x

Weleda nappy rash cream also! I had a rash and was prescribed all sorts from GP, nothing worked, i used this and it cleared it up so quickly! Its very gentle on skin xx

Sounds like they are allergic to either the nappies or wipes. We use washable cloth cheeky wipes and just plain water. Midwife reminded us to make sure to dry them too as it’s the moisture that causes nappy rash. Fingers crossed no issues so far. Hope you can put your finger on the issue soon x

All the above advice really; plain water and wipes, maybe change nappy brands, dry before applying cream. And applying breastmilk.
After trying all the creams on my first born, I’d highly recommend Aquaphor. It’s a bit like Vaseline. It’s quite pricey but it last a loooong time as you only need a little bit.
It can be used as a barrier cream as well as for nappy rash and seems to be kinder to the skin than the thick creams.

My son has been the same. Changing often and drying his bottom with a hair drier (obviously not too hot) has helped and it turns out he likes the noise of it so calmed him during the changes which were sore! He also has reflux so I’m trying to work out if it’s something I’m eating that’s also causing him wind and consequently lots of tiny poos.

We stopped using wetwipes altogether when my little girl had nappy rash and we now use cool/lukewarm boiled water and cotton wool balls, it's so much softer on their skin and the lukewarm water is a lot more soothing on their skin, I then let that dry completely and put matanium on, let that soak in for 5 minutes and put vaseline on top, her nappy rash is generally cleared by the following morning, we had to use wetwipes as a last resort the other day and almost instantly she had redness on her bum.

All of the above and then I would say if none of that works it could be a sign of CMPA - so potentially one to look into the other signs and seek support. A friends poor LO really suffered with awful nappy rash (completely red raw) which no creams would work on and turns out it was the first signs of it. Really hope it isn’t and one of the above works for you though- but just in case you get to that point!

Try Cornflour it works amazing!!
