Hospital Stay

All depends on how delivery goes etc , typically if all is well you can be out the same day depending on time , I had an overnight stay but can be longer x

I had a friend that was in and out in 5 hours! Gave birth as soon as she arrived. I was in labour for 30 hours and stayed a further 3/4 days

I left about 9 hours after giving birth, was able to stay in the birth centre room and then a holding room so never went into a shared ward. All depends on the delivery I guess. I had a 2nd degree tear too x

If you have a section then it’s a minimum of 24hours post op

I was out in 24 hours. Was kept overnight as she pooped inside me.

Totally depends on how your birth goes. I was 2 nights but I had surgery after for a tear.

Also sadly depends on if they need the bed

I had 2 nights but a Caesarian and then let me have another day in a private room to learn to breastfeed, sleep, shower and relax. Loved it xx

My first I was in 2 nights but I had a fourth degree tear, second was planned section I was in from 8am the Friday morning had him 3pm that day, was out for the next dinner time. Really depends x

First baby I was in 7 days second baby I had csections 3 afternoon was let out 3 in the afternoon next day

I was for over a week. 3 days before birth and 5 after. But i had some complications.

It depends we were planning on 48 hours as my little girl needed antibiotics, and it ended up being 5 days as she developed jaundice whilst we were in about a day old but I was in for a week 2 days before birth as my waters broke but baby wasn’t coming x

One night. Although first we came back as he had jaundice and needed to go under uv rays.

I gave birth at 7pm and was home by 2pm the next day, would have been 9am but was the day of doctors strikes so I had to wait around abit longer!

I was home same day both times

I arrived at 8am, gave birth at 11am and was back home by 5pm 😅

I was in for induction on the friday. Didn’t get down to labour suite until Sunday afternoon was in labour for 18hours and ended in a c section so left on Tuesday x

A week, but other women on the ward were going home by the same evening or the next morning x

5 days as my waters went prematurely and both me and baby needed a 5 day course of preventative antibiotics and monitoring. I guess prepare for a few days just in case 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was up for leaving asap but ended up staying two nights and was glad I did. Had a big tear and while I was there I got lots of help with feeding. The midwife needed to be sure the baby was feeding well.

I would say don’t expect anything.
I was almost sent home 6 hours after, and am now staying atleast a week

Depends on so many factors. With my second 12 days ago I was discharged 4 hours after he was born

Jist to add, people say it depends on how your delivery goes, but that is not all that determines ylthe lebgth of yoyr hospital stay. There are certain tests and things thay have to happen for you to be discharget, and even if you have a straightforward vaginal no complications delivery, yoy may have to end up staying for some reason. I gor example had to stay for 3 days, instead of 1 after delivery, because baby had not produced a wet nappy.

I had my baby at nearly 10pm and I was home by 1am (my preference though, I was offered a bed on a ward if I wanted to stay)

Most women are home within 24 hours but it would depend on your birth, I've already been told that I'll be in for at least a week with baby boy because of my heart/lung condition xx

I went in at midnight, gave birth at 3am and home in the afternoon

might depend on the hospital but we were discharged without any tests! We had to go back the next day for the NIPE and we’re going for the hearing screening on Tuesday when he’ll be 2 weeks old. I don’t think there are any hard and fast rules

they aren't necessarily full on tests. It's more checks than anything - hips, have had first poo etc (sounds like the NIPE) plus odd other things.

They told me they have to legally do certain ones before baby can leave (should happen 6 hours after birth)

yeah we didn’t have any of that. Did with the first, not the second

I was ready to go home about 4 hours after birth and they would not let me leave until they had done that and typed the report. Did it a bit before 6 hours but not a lot.

I had pretty traumatic but natural birth, my daughter had a very rough start the 1st hour of her life. Born at 11:45 pm discharged 3pm the next day. They would have sent me home 6 hours after birth if I hadn’t had a 3rd degree tear. I remember being stood in the carpark in absolute agony staring at the baby with no name thinking so what do I do now 😂

with my first we were waiting hourssss for it. This time they just wanted us out 😂 different hospitals and trusts though

I think everyone has that moment with their first! I remember getting through the front door, and my husband and I just looked at each other like ‘now what?’

Depends on how you are , I felt physically fine but my blood pressure said otherwise so I had to stay in a week after I had baby

It is impossible to say to be honest. With my first I went in at 8am on the Monday and didn’t leave until midday the following Tuesday.
My second I went in 8am on the Wednesday and left 4pm on the Friday.

I was in for a Week. 3 failed pessarys ending in a c-section. 5nights of induction and 2nights from CSection, they said I could have stayed another night but I was so ready to be out of hospital by then! It all depends on how everything goes for you. Generally I think they like to get you out as soon as you are ready to go but they won’t force you if you really don’t feel ready! X

I was in for about 7 hours after my eldest and 12 with my youngest… my friend had c sections and with her eldest she was in for a week and with her youngest she was out after 24 hours!

I was induced on the Wednesday and gave birth the Thursday evening. I was severely dehydrated due to sickness during labour and birth and had a infection so was given iv antibiotics was kept in til the Sunday evening also had to have a catheter due to not be able to hold my bladder

Depends how the birth was, whether you had a C-section, how baby is, how you are, how they're feeding, probably depends on the hospitals procedures etc. I stayed in one night for both mine. I was in for two days before the birth with my first though.

24 hours but the people opposite us were 6 hours!

Like others have said it completely depends on your own circumstances.
My first was an induction so technically I had an overnight stay (induced at 9pm) but delivered within 12 hours and was discharged 6 hours after delivery. Spontaneous labour with my second and total stay was 9 hours.
Had a friend just deliver via planned c-section and from time of admittance to getting discharged was less than 36 hours.
They do like to make sure you can use the toilet okay etc and do some basic newborn checks (which I’d recommend pushing to get asap as otherwise you sometimes have to come back to the hospital the day after) but honestly you can settle so much easier at home (no complications of course) so you really don’t want to stay unless you have to!

Meconium in waters and iugr, 3 days for antibiotics n cultures to come back and another 2 for her to be gaining weight/latching well, no nicu stay at any point so you may be in shorter if so as youll be discharged when medically fit unless your lucky and they have plenty of spare beds and a short stay. Generally without complications though your home very very quickly, depends on time of day tho as some wards like mine have set hours they schedule to do discharge paperwork but ours had the schedule for everything throughout the day by the bed

It depends on a lot of things girl!! It could be just few hours to many days
