I know there’s been a few posts on this but I just wanna get a few more answers. I’ve got a sweep scheduled for tomorrow, I’ll be 39+4. I’m a ftm and have no idea what to expect other than knowing that my midwife will be up there giving me all sorts of discomfort. I’ve had no cervical checks so a bit worried incase it’s completely closed. I’ve been doing loads of things to help induce labour, even old wives tales. I’m hoping this does the trick but all depends if my body’s ready😫just so uncomfortable now I’m ready to meet my little man!
For anyone that’s had sweeps, what was your experience like after having it done? Did it work? Just wanna hear experiences x

After my first, cramps and some light bleeding. I had my second 4 days later, it was much more intensely painful, midwife said she’d be surprised if it didn’t ‘work’ but it didn’t. And it caused me to have horrendous cramps, intense nausea, vomiting and headaches (so much so I was hospitalised with dehydration). This is rare but can be a side effect.
Personally, I obviously didn’t find it helpful. And I’ve now booked in for elective c section as it’s caused a lot of distress x

With my son I was booked in for a sweep I was really at the start of contractions at the point of going in but still went ahead to see if it would help progress things . Honestly it wasn’t painful or uncomfortable for me I was 2cm dilated and she said she’d be very surprised if I didn’t have my son that night or the next … I had him the next night 🥰 ! My sweep for this baby is on Wednesday when I’ll be 40+1 x

Not so positive here.. I had a second sweep on Saturday as very overdue. Basically put my body into latent labour… wish I’d never had it tbh. 🙁

FTM too, little boy born last Friday. I was nervous about sweep but actually worked out well as avoided further induction intervention. And also didn’t find the actual procedure painful at all - uncomfortable but bearable as v quick.
Went into see community midwife on the Wednesday at 40+3 but couldn’t perform sweep as closed cervix. That was frustrating! Ended up being referred to maternity triage for high blood pressure.
In the hospital doctors keen to get things moving so suggested another sweep the next morning (Thursday). I wasn’t hopeful but agreed - was 2cm dilated & could feel waters! Within 6 hours was feeling inconsistent contractions.
Doctors wanted to again keep things moving the next day (Friday) by which point I was fed up too! Agreed to proceed to breaking waters - they checked me & I was 5cm! Within an hr of breaking waters was in established labour, and baby born in less than 5 hours. Only gas & air as no time for anything else!
Good luck ☺️

I had a sweep at 40wks with my first, it was so painful I felt like I was going to pass out. It did nothing, she said my cervix was still high and hard. 6 days later she offered me another one, I didnt want it at all, she didn't pressure me but my husband was trying to persuade me into it... I was like yeah but it's not you having someone shove their hand up as far as they can to open your cervix so shut up 😂 eventually I agreed, it was completely different, it was a little uncomfortable but nothing like the first time, she said I was already 2-3cm. I had some light bleeding afterwards, and then 10 hours later I had my daughter
