I had my gallstones removed in February, since a few weeks after I've still got the attack pain, I'll admit its not as bad but it makes me want to sit down as its painful!
Has anyone experienced this before? Unsure weather to call my GP as the first Dr didn't believe I had gallstones in the first place until I pestered them about it 😕

Did you have just the gallstones removed or your gallbladder? X

After I had my gallbladder removal I still have some pain, they gave me an MRI to see if there were any gallstones left over in the bile duct. I’m still waiting for the results but you could still have some stones in the duct possibly. Do you have a way of contacting the surgeon/surgeons team to see if they’ll refer you for an MRI?

When I had mine removed, the surgeon told me that for a while after, the other organs still behave as if there is a gallbladder there but everything will sync up eventually, he was explaining that if I were to eat foods that would have triggered an attack before having my gallbladder removed e.g high dairy or high fat, that it I might continue to feel some discomfort. I was only uncomfortable for a couple of months after and tbh I thought he might have been encouraging me to have a better diet going forward more than anything.

@Sophie I'm sure I had both removed x

that's interesting, I'll see if I can do that! I have an appointment on Monday with the gp so I'll question it. X

@Jessica that's good to know, I'll be honest since having it out my stools haven't been the same either, if I need to go I need to go then and there, its similar to IBS symptoms, I've changed my diet completely but nothings worked x

yeah I think that’s pretty normal for most people, my friend who had hers removed too, refuses to eat out now because she has similar bowel movements to what you described and can’t work out what triggers it either. Personally I’d keep on at them, unfortunately it seems to be the only way to get help without having to live on Imodium for the rest of your life like my friend.

have a look into dumping syndrome- it’s likely you suffer with that now you’ve had it removed x

thank you, I’ll pass it on to my friend. I’ve been really lucky and only had discomfort for a couple of months after and don’t have to restrict my diet either, it’s a shame there isn’t much support for people post op x

I had mine removed in 2022- I suffer a lot still with the same pains as before, I’m on the waiting list for pain management to have injections. They think I have post-cholecystectomy syndrome. I would definitely see your gp and push for some answers. Xx
