Breech at 37 weeks

We’ve just had our 37 week scan and the baby is still breech, it’s been in the same position since the 30 weeks scan so I’m worried baby is comfy and not going to move! Anyone got positive experiences of flipping baby and or having a natural breech birth? And any tips on what worked for you?

Unexpectedly found out baby was breech after 37 weeks got offerered to book in for c section but I opted ecv, worked! got him turned was then booked in for induction and had him vaginally, didn’t want to try a breech birth or wait incase he didn’t flip I just wanted to avoid a c section x

Have a look at Breech Birth UK Facebook group, there’s loads of really helpful resources and people sharing their stories/asking for tips etc. Is your hospital supportive of vaginal breech birth? It’s a completely safe variation of normal, but you do want to have a team who are experienced with it and know what they’re doing. I had a VBB just over 2 years ago and it was a really positive experience for me, I’ll link my birth story here if you want to have a look, feel free to ask any questions! https://breechbabiesclub.org/chloes-story-a-positive-planned-vaginal-breech-birth/

@Chloe Thank you! I tried to have ECV yesterday but it didn’t work, the doctors seemed pro vaginal breech birth so I think we will try for that but they’ve said I will need to have a c section as a back up option incase I don’t go into labor spontaneously 😕 xx

My baby was breech and we opted for c-section in the end. When talking about a vaginal breech birth my midwife’s exact words were ‘we’re getting better at it’ which didn’t fill me with confidence! It’s also pot luck who is on shift when you go in to labour and how experienced they are with breech birth. For me the risks outweighed the benefits and c-section was better option. But if your doctors sound pro vaginal birth that is great news, I hope it all goes well for you 🤞🏻

I think it does depend on the hospital! At mine (Oldham), doctors were very pro c section but the midwives were confident about vaginal. They have a midwife who specialises in it and she was on call for me going into labour so that I’d know she’d be there. It’s such a personal decision but good luck Molly with whatever happens :) x

@Aishah hey! Would you be able to share how you found the ecv? Xx

So we unexpectedly found out baby was breech, I wanted a natural birth, but anyhow once we found out consultant came first thing she said prebook a c section I was like what I wanted natural birth but she said it’s unlikely baby will turn as it’s past 37 weeks, so she suggested ecv, got booked in, honestly it wasn’t painful for me like probably just uncomfy and it worked, after that they booked me in for an induction :)
