Heartlands hospital

Has anyone got any experience of a C Section here? I’m booked in at Good Hope in Sutton but if you have a planned C Section they do it at Heartlands, just wanted to get an idea of other people’s experience as I’m struggling to decide whether I want a planned or to try for VBAC.

I had an emergency c sec at good hope - ngl I haven’t heard many good things about heartlands - if anything they say to avoid it as after care is the worst! (a close family member had her little one there) I know Birmingham women’s hospital is good for planned c secs? I know loads who have had really good experiences there!

Following as I’m likely to have a C-section at Heartlands!

I ended up having a category 2 emergency c section at heartlands on the 13th. It’s was a great experience for the circumstances the midwives ,doctors were very calm and reassuring. All together it was an positive experience c

I had an emergency c section at heartlands. Whilst the whole labour/c section/care was brilliant, I was back in the day after I was discharged for another 2 days and they were absolutely vile to me. They wouldn't give me any food, told me off the first time I rang for assistance, refuse to put a tag on my 4 day old, keep telling me I didn't need to be in there (despite being admitted by a doctor) etc. I was back in as the pain was that bad I couldn't walk, sit, stand. After scans, turns out I was badly constipated. They had been giving me morphine after my c section but no stool softener with it, and discharged me without checking if I had opened my bowels (both of which theyre supposed to do apparently). So I couldn't fault them the first time, but went downhill when I went back in. I don't want to put you off with this post, but if you're delivering there, just make sure you get all the medication you're supposed to to avoid going back in! I hope your delivery goes well x

@Zohra this has only just made me realise they didn’t check if I had released my bowls were happy to just know I was able to empty my bladder.

@Summer same here. Glad you didn't have any bowel issues afterwards. The pain was horrendous I could barely move with the constipation plus the c section pains, my husband had to literally pull me up to stand and support me walking!😩

Had both emergency section 2018 and elective section 2021 in heartlands but times I couldn't fault it. Obviously elective is more chilled and planned but even with my emergency it was fine, they reassured me all thr way through both times and made sure I felt OK x
