Careers for single mum with baby

Hi everyone! What do you/did you do for work? Did you enjoy it and how would you find it with a baby? Is the pay worth it? Flexible arrangements or WFH benefits? Did you need to study or have any experience?

Doing some research and looking at changing jobs from marketing. I’m particularly interested in admin, customer service/support, disability or aged care support - I would be happy doing just about anything but am worried about experience, qualifications needed, and other applicants going for a good role.

I’m also worried about what the future looks like with a baby and working as a mostly single parent. Ideally I’d like to start back part time but worried it won’t be enough to support us. Any advice?

Hey Icognito, I am a single parent and work as an Education Support Worker. I did a 5 month tafe course with a 4 week placement block. I found a job working with kids with intellectual disabilities. I have so many answers to some of your a questions so feel free to message me as I won't have enough space to write it here!

Childcare works well for me because 1. Teaches tools etc for parenting as well as education
2. Helps open up ideas for home-schooling if you ever wanted to consider
3. Can work from home as family day care educator
4. Discounted childcare for your child depending on company
5. Can go into before and after school care work once they hit school

You can work for 3 months without starting a qualification to see if you like it, and then you do a cert 3 or diploma in early childhood education which was covered under a government scheme and only had to pay $50 with a healthcare card.

Can go through online companies or through a centre as a traineeship
