Can you smoke while breastfeeding ? Yes , is it recommended? No . Part of the reason why is not even really due to how it currently affects your baby but more so how it could affect them later on . I was a major pothead before getting pregnant and I did my research . It’s typically related to children having behavioral problems and neurological problems later in life . My cousin smokes and she’s had two children and I am around them alot I know it’s caused them to be a lot more fussy and she was smoking while pregnant too her children are both under average when it comes to their size in comparison to other children in their age group and her eldest does have speech issues while her younger child is good speech wise but she does have some anger issues lol but what 2 year old doesn’t . But to wrap it up the issue is more so how it’ll affect them later on not how it would affect them in that moment

Following. I smoked before I got pregnant.

I did with both my older. No longer can due to medicines I'm on. But it never transfered to my baby and it never caused any issues with supply. Also, my boys behave normally

I just looked at some studies and they say concentration accumulates more in breast milk than your blood so you would be transferring higher doses to your baby. They are so new and fragile, and still development in the first months of life. I think the most responsible thing to do would be to give them formula if you really can’t stop using.

girl stories like yours give me hope lol I miss smoking but I’ve just been concerned about the risks plus It could be hereditary things , I’m sure your sons are awesome cuz they have a great mom 🥰

I would say no don’t smoke and breastfeed everyone kinda basically said what I planned to say if you feel as though you need to smoke just make sure you pump and dump that day and just give ur baby breastmilk you stored away or formula for that day or if you can wait just don’t smoke until your baby doesn’t need your milk anymore

I would not do it, not healthy for baby.

The first comment is spot on. It’s all subtle long-term risk (and sometimes a child is just genetically/biologically lucky and it has no effect on them). But the brain’s endocannabinoid system (the natural receptors that marijuana acts on in the brain) are super active in early development setting things up… if you introduce something that acts in that system that isn’t naturally there it can throw things off. Often times you see this later as the child being more anxious (less able to calm themselves down) or less attentive. If you can hold off on using marijuana a little longer it reduces risk.
