Honest Opinions

What do you think of the name Harlow/Harlowe? What vibe do you get when you hear the name? Do any nicknames come to mind? It’s a name I never considered, until now at 38 weeks! Hubby loves it, I love ‘H’ names in general and it gives me hippy girl at a festival vibes or Aussie surfer girl maybe? My only issue is I hate the boys name ‘Arlo’ (no offence Arlo mamas!). I want to avoid ‘trendy’ ‘try-hard’ names, I don’t like Willow or Luna or Nova or any of those modern trendy names. Other names we considered were Halle, Esme and Violet. Suggestions welcome!

I love Halle! I would go with that! Halle, Esme and Violet sounds like an amazing sibset ☺️

Harlow feels very trendy to me, Harl- names often make me think of Harlot, just isn’t my style unfortunately.

I've loved that name for years! My partner wasn't a fan, though, so it was removed from our list.

I put it in the same category as like... Merle, Corbin, or Sullivan. Mostly androgynous (maybe leaning masculine), but easy to pronounce. I don't think it needs a nickname? But that sort of thing just happens.

Love Harlow nicknames Harley or Lolo or Lowe

I personally feel Harlow is a trendy try hard name. Harlow makes me think of Harlot - which no one would want to name their child!

Much prefer your other name suggestions!

Interesting! I’m concerned about the ‘Harlot’ association too. I love Halle but there is a cousin Hallie on my hubbys side. I’m also recently drawn to Esmie or Esme…maybe I’ll do a separate post for thoughts on Esme. I’m not a nickname fan, so I’d like something with no obvious nicknames

I would consider Harlow to be more modern and trendy than Willow, Luna or Nova. I'm not keen and personally prefer Esme :)

Maybe I’m in the minority that actually quite likes Harlow? I wouldn’t use it personally but I didn’t immediately jump to the harlot connection and I’ve never met a Harlow so I don’t know how popular it actually is in practice. Never met an Esme either though tbf and I like that as well

As someone local to Harlow, Essex it’s definitely not a name that would appear on my list! 😂 Love Halle, reminds me of The Parent Trap!

I love violet and also really like Halle.
To me harlow is a very harsh sounding name, like a woman who I would be scared to meet in a dark alley, wearing a red tracksuit and gold primark jewellery - sorry! I actually feel mean writing that 🙈

We’re calling our second Harlow to go with our first Hallie so personally love it haha

Harlow is cute. I love the name Marlowe too

I love Harlow or halle. My daughter is called Harper-Rose and I'm currently trying to think of H names too. I'm 8m pregnant and I don't know the gender so its even harder!

Avatar

this made me lol so much cause even thought I love the name I can actually see where you’re coming from, I’m Irish and if I lived back home I wouldn’t consider Harlow cause it would also give me that vibe 😂 but in Australia it gives me a surfer hippy girl vibe 😂 how weird!

Avatar

loooove Harper! My hubbys friend just had a Harper so we can’t use it but definitely would have. H is such a good letter!

I also have Harley on the cards! Xx
