Medical management

Has anyone went down this route following miscarriage? How long did it take/last? What was the pain like?

Was absolutely awful for me and it didn’t work and I tried it twice over two days, ended up having a d&c, which in hindsight I wish I’d gone with first. The medical management essentially felt like labour pains and you have no pain relief x

Also so sorry to hear you are going through this - please do message if you need someone to talk to x

I did after my mmc at the end of last year. I took the pill and it happened less than an hour after taking the tablet which was pretty quick. Like Jessica said, it feels like labour pains. The worst of it lasts for a few hours and then the pain is still there for a few days while you pass the remainder of the pregnancy. Depending on how far along you are, you will see the baby’s sac which is very emotional and awful. But the physical recovery time is only a few weeks. Sorry for your loss lovely! I hope you are given the time to heal and process emotionally as well as physically ❤️

I am so sorry you are experiencing this. It’s heartbreaking and you must take time to look after yourself. It depends how far you were in the pregnancy. I had to have the medication twice as the 1st day was just pain and no progress so I had another dose the next day. Try to ask for a prescription of dihydrocodeine because I took co-codamol and it didn’t have any impact. For me, the pain was as bad as labour contractions. It took 3 days to pass what needed to pass and then the pain disappeared. It took much much longer to feel anything like myself physically or emotionally

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Because of my mmc last year I will always recommend surgical management and agreeing to histology/testing. As horrible as it may sound and be, it might give you a reason. We found out our mmc was a partial molar pregnancy, which meant a follow up period of blood tests and I will now (and did) get an early scan at ~6 weeks for any future pregnancies. The surgery was straightforward and I was out of hospital by lunchtime, hospital staff were kind and supportive too so I never felt alone through it. Xxx

I went in this Monday to have the tablets (you insert 4 into your vagina). I was in excruciating pain for a few hours but then nothing. They hadn’t worked. I rang EPU on Wednesday and today I had the D&C. Was very straight forward and over in minutes, I opted for a local anaesthetic and only felt some cramping. I’m now home and in no pain with very minimal bleeding. Hope this helps x
