Studying/Teaching
Does anyone have any experience of doing a teacher training degree with a LO? I’m thinking of doing my PGCE September 2025 when baby will be 2. I know you can get a childcare grant for costs of up to £193 a week but I’m just wondering how everyone balances it.
I won’t have to work as I’m eligible for a £10,000 grant for living costs as well. I’m waiting until he’s 2 as I’m not ready to put him in a nursery at 1 year when he’s not verbal at all but I’m still nervous as it’ll be full time.

My pgce and 1st year teaching were the most stressful of my life and that was pre children. Having said that, it was 13 years ago! So I can’t speak for how things would be now. If anything I can imagine it being even more demanding than when I qualified. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I’m just being honest! Teaching is incredibly tough, even now I’m experienced and been a head of dept for 9 years. I’m actually contemplating a career change as I can’t bear the thought of how stressed I’m going to be going back after this mat leave with two small children 😫
