Hi all. At my 20 week anatomy scan baby girl was measuring in the 42nd percentile. Today I had to go into labor and delivery for reduced fetal movment at 23w6d luckily all was good but they said she was only measuring in the 11th percentile. Of course now I'm super worried. What could this possibly mean? Is it something bad?

i was trying to look into this for you on some threads etc . what i found was they will measure percentile for 100 babies born on the same day and this is how they decide which percentile your baby is . however im not 100% again as its just quick research i done .
most woman on the threads at 23w had their babies measure all differently , it’s to do with the size / weight of your baby.
most comments said with care and feeding their babies are now ok and their weight / size picked up due to the feeding .
a lady who’s baby was in the 10th percentile had to deliver her baby and the cause was an issue with the placenta meaning the baby couldn’t grow bigger . so it sounds like for sure this is a weight size measurement . to which your baby will grow .
if you can ask a professional around you , to explain what this means as you are very worried might be best ?
i’m glad baby is ok and delivered well to keep her safe , try to ask someone if you can to ease your worry . xxx

we didn't end up delivering her thank God so she's still in there growing. They said my placenta looked good but I'm definitely gonna talk with my OB at my next appointment thank god

aww that’s good news that things seem to be ok ! a lot of ladies said they were checked after some weeks and things were fine and picked up again !
so it could be that baby is relaxing and will take a growth spurt !
let us know how things go !! hopefully you feel less anxious knowing placenta is ok . xxxx

Try your best not to worry. The same thing happened with my youngest son. He measured 44th percentile at 20 weeks then at 32 weeks I went for a growth scan and found out he dropped to the 11th percentile. I was worried sick. He is 4-1/2 months now and very healthy! Nothing was wrong he just was a smaller baby. I got induced at 38 weeks because they said he would do better on the outside. He was born at 5 pounds 11 ounces. It’s not your fault sometimes it just happens randomly. It’s more common than you think. Everything will be fine. My advice is just relax lots and eat lots lol!💕💕

thank you so much this definitely makes me feel better!

you’re welcome! 🥰

Remember, every child is different and due dates are heavily estimated. I've had two estimates say August 23rd, one say August 24th, one say September 1st, and one day August 14th. My baby is huge, but I was already a huge baby as was my brother. If you and your husband were small babies you could be leaning towards having a smaller child or the due date could be off. They may do an early growth scan to preclude issues or if you are like me you could have an additional scan done. They've classified me as high risk due to an abundance of caution since I won't go off a med that I highly need to function. The med's only known side effect in pregnancy is low birth weight. Well, clearly I'm not at risk of that. It's also important to remember babies are getting bigger on average every year. A baby that's "running small" now may have been average sized in the 90's. My nephew was 7 pounds 11 ounces and they told my brother that he was the low end of normal meaning anything under 7 pounds is now considered small.

thank you I appreciate it. I was just worried because of the big drop from 42nd to 11th percentile from 20 weeks to 23w6d

Glad your baby is ok!! Is making me worry about my littl’un tho she’s measuring at 5% 😅 latest at 5.1% at 22 weeks, now at 23 plus 4 weeks. Ahh it’s soo stressful worrying about them!

it's strange they did two scans that close to begin with unless they already had concerns. Talk to your doctor's about opinions and if they are worried

one was the normal anatomy scan at 20 weeks and this one was because I had gone to labor and delivery for reduced fetal movment so they wanted to do an ultrasound. They said everything was fine. I had asked the nurse before being discharged what she was measuring at and that's when she said she was measuring in the 11th percentile
