Speech - is your LO the same?

My son can say around 30-40 words. He’s not the most confident talker but his understanding is brilliant and if we head to the farm for example he’s quite happy to name the animals / spots something in a book or if I ask him ‘what’s this?’ But sometimes I notice days where he just babbles and when I ask ‘what’s this’ he babbles rather than says the word… is this normal? Other days he talks nonstop and I’m surprised at how much talking he’s done.

My LB does this I didn’t think anything of it

@Christine Mitchell I’m not too concerned - think I’m just having a day where I’m overly sensitive therefor mum mode is in full force 😂

I think they’re little humans, they’ll have days where they feel like talking and days where they feel a bit lazier. I’m currently learning a foreign language and when I’m tired or stressed or cba it’s hard to listen and speak and I just want to speak English. I try to view it like that xx

Yeah totally the same! My little one has really good speech and understanding but also sometimes it’s like he gets a little lazy and babbles when I know he can say the word. They’re still so young I think it’s just what to expect! X

@Amy Agreed! Sometimes I let my mum anxiety get the better of me 😂😅

@Holly I forgot just because they have learnt something doesn’t mean that will do it consistently. We don’t as adults - there’s just so much online that puts the fear of death into you! X

My boy tends to just use words in context but not on demand. Like if I point to a banana and say what's that he'll just babble but if I go to give him one or he wants one he'll point at it and say nana. If that makes any sense 😂

sounds totally normal, my little girl has great speech but she still babbles loads, especially if she's 'reading' her books, she babbles to herself while she looks at the pictures and turns the pages, sometimes even when there are pictures she knows the word for xx

Yeah definitely normal ☺️ mine was just babbling absolute nonsense just there actually!
