Nursery fees constantly increasing

Just had an email that the price is increasing by £6 a day, it already went up £3 in January. It has now increased by £16 a day since we started which is significant over the month! We live in Wales so don't get any free hours currently 😕 I understand their costs have gone up but surely people are just going to have to start pulling their child out of nursery?!

It's crazy, not sure how much your price per day is but we're currently sitting at £80 per day and struggling to afford it despite having 2 x full time incomes.

£80😬 It is £66 for us.

It was £68 in March, in April it went up to £80, an increase of £12 per day and I'm sitting here going I'd personally love an increase in my wages of £12 per day but it would never happen.

I find so hard to keep up. I am thinking of decreasing work hours to afford putting my child into childcare. I work full time and childcare is more than 60% my wage xx

“Only” £62.50 a day for over 2’s (£64.75 for U2’s), but when we first started it was about £10 cheaper a day. I’m currently on Mat leave and have kept my little one in nursery as normal, it’s definitely been a financial hit when I’m not earning 😢 And then from Jan I’ll have 2 lots of fees to pay for 8 months, until toddler starts school. 😩

Girl my kids nursery fee went up by £300 so we took him out 🫠

@Emma that's a ridiculous increase!

@Chloe I'm on mat leave too, really wondering whether to cancel some nursery days 😕

It absolutely is a ridiculous increase but I'm kind of stuck, I need the childcare as I don't have support of family so until I get the 30 hours funding I'm screwed, the government 15 free hours was swallowed up by their £12 increase on fees per day.

You’re all entitled to 2yr funding now as working families it’s only 15hrs but will be a huge saving… nursery, preschool and childminders are all aware of this and should be telling you about this and giving you the forms so you can apply!

@Laura not applicable in Wales unfortunately!

I’ve never know nursery’s put their fees up as regularly as yours (worked in childcare for 10years) have they given any reason? Cos to increase in January and again now seems incredibly unfair!

Mine did a Jan increase, and an April increase too.

We use a childminder - we pay £45 a day I couldn’t afford nursery full time when I don’t need school holidays covered x

@Amy I have a child that does an 11 hour day and pays £70 I take them out and we go to groups and they have breakfast and dinner (mum sends a packed lunch) etc which is all included in the costs! But most of my children don’t pay more than £40 a day depending on length they are here! Childminders definitely don’t get enough credit!

@Laura started in July 2022, had 4 increases since then including this one. Normally goes up £3 a time but now £6. They've literally just said due to their increasing costs. Understand that food and staff wages etc have increased but that's was 31% rise over 2 years, out wages certainly haven't increased that much!

That’s mental, most staff in nursery are on minimum wage so definitely not 31% is there any option to send own lunches etc? Xx

Wow those prices are ridiculous!! We pay £36 + £3 for lunch xx

@Laura unfortunately not! @Ruth is that for a full day in private nursery? If so that's insanely cheap!

What part of wales?? I’m south wales Newport and my little one is in a private day nursery and a full day (8-6) and it’s £55 a day,, that includes breakfast dinner and tea. Snack and nappies all included in the price xx

Yes its a send nursery. 9 - 3:30, mondays, Tues and Fridays. He was at a forest school nursery last sept for literally 3, 2hr settling in sessions. They were very unsupportive. They charged £45 a day. Xx

@Kirsty North Wales! @Ruth makes sense that it's cheaper, that is a lot shorter hours. We pay for 7.30am-5.30pm.

Ahhh OK. Yes our nursery has just started the half 7 until half 5 but I wouldn't get to work on time especially on a Tues. Xx
