We are meant to be driving down to cornwall tomorrow with our 3 month old baby and 2 year old. Satnav says it’s a 4 hour drive but more like 6/7 hours with all the stops we will do.
My 3 month old seems to have come down with a running nose and what i can only presume is a sore throat. I’m hesitant to go as I don’t want to haul the baby down there while he’s unwell and incase he gets worse. My toddler had croup last week and i’m worried it’s now my littlests turn to have it as it’s contagious.
My husband thinks we should still go as he’s unwell so it doesn’t matter if that’s at home or down in cornwall. Regardless if it’s just a little cold or something more, I don’t want to be loading him in and out of the car to go here there and everywhere to see family over the weekend and make him even more poorly and overstimulated. My husband thinks it’ll be fine, what would you do in this situation or have you been in this situation before?

I'd go

I'd go too. My baby has had 2 stuffy noses now in his 4 month life and neither of them have bothered him much.

Is it just runny nose or is he feverish? Is he well in himself? If hes happy, drinking and fine Id probably go. If hes crying, unsettled.. it would probably be a nightmare to drive down 6 hours with a crying unsettled baby.
Thanks for commenting! I feel so torn about it as it would be such a shame to not go and for him to be okay over the weekend. But equally so if we went and he got worse! I wish i had a crystal ball so i could tell the future! he’s had a stuffy nose multiple times before, whereas this is a runny nose and a cough. The past two days i’ve had to wear him in the sling for his naps because he screams if i try and put him in his bed which then in turn makes him cough 😭
It’s a runny nose and a cough. I’m using saline drops and then a nose sucker to try and keep his nose clear so he can breathe easier. He’s more unsettled and not his usual self, doesn’t want to be put down and cries if I do. I’ve had to have in the sling for all of his naps, plus a lot of his awake time because he wants that closeness for comfort.
It would be so much easier if my husband and myself were on the same page. I think he wants to go down more so because we’re going down with his parents to see his side of the family. Plus the boys will be meeting their great great auntie and uncle for the first time so I feel like i’d be letting people down if we don’t go, but then i’m not putting my baby’s well being first and prioritising a bunch of adults feelings. I will say I think there is a lot of health anxiety on my part when it come to our baby as the last two times he has gotten sick he’s ended up in hospital. Thank for you commenting!

Oh poor bub. I hope he feels better soon!
Trust your instinct, mama. Maybe talk with your husband once again xx

Sorry i only just got a notification to say you had replied. I hope baba is on the mend? Did you go in the end?
