Baby very gassy.

Hi my 8 week old is gassy all the time. Constantly scrunching his legs and letting out audible smelly wind all the time. He’s constantly in distress and crying . He was absolutely fine a few weeks back but this started 2 weeks ago and seems to be only getting worse. His poo cycle has also changed since then , he poops every 4 days and it is very soft . I’m exclusively breastfeeding atm. I’ve spoken to GP, lactation consultants, Nothing is helping . He had a tongue tie which was sniped. Anyone has any tips ? I’ve tried all the massages and do bicycles regularly. It’s gotten to a point where he’s not slept all day today from the discomfort. Has anyone been in a similar position?
I don’t know if it’s breast milk causing the problem.
Anyone used probiotics? Do they help with gassiness?

My baby is 7 weeks this week and she was the exact same since she had cmpa. She was really gassy and kept farting and this was causing her to became so unsettled. Her poos were more watery than usual (I’m breastfeeding too) then she was going days without pooing. We got her some gripe water yesterday and gave her a tiny drop of it and she done 2 poos yesterday and one already today.. you should give that a try x

We used a probiotic and I do think it helped. It was recommended by the GP. The health visitor recommended Colief to us so we switched to that and that has made a huge difference. It has made our little boy poo more frequently as he was only going every 3-4 days

Im in the same position, colief doesn't really change anything for my baby. Gripe water seemed to make him drowsy but actually made things worse. Tried infacol and dentanox which help get his burps out a little better but he is writhing round in pain in discomfort twice after every feed. So far we've been told by a GP and a paediatrician that it's normal but do have a dietician referral to explore that side of things. It's very draining mentally and physically to deal with and difficult to get anyone to take you seriously as I think they just assume you're over reacting and that it's just like their baby who has gas once in a while and they do some bicycle legs and out it comes. My babies gas comes out but it's just never ending so the pain and discomfort doesn't end for him either.

This sounds like our eldest and he has cmpa allergy? Could you try cutting out dairy if EBF and see if that helps? Bless him it’s awful for them 😞 and us! I also ebf I could out all dairy ( it takes 3 weeks to get out your system) it made such a difference then re introduced just check and the difference was mad then we were referred to the dietician through the docs. Well done for following mum instincts and knowing something isnt right x

Yee my baby had this too, have a research on Reddit about foremolk and hindmilk , my lactation consultant suggested it around 2-5 weeks hers was really bad and found out that my baby really liked the first bit of breast milk foremolk that’s really sweet and cos of oversupply don’t get to the second half which is the fatt milk that settles the stomach and avoids fasting fix this I emptied out one breast first even is she fussed screamed I’d not offer the other, also express the first half until it starts to get whiter in color (the first sugary bit will usually be clearer ) also eating fattier heartier foods (this was the hardest for me whilst recovering from surgery but nut butters ,avocados oils when cooking really help -the boom the first forty days had loads of cool
Recipes and talks about how fats are really essential for breastfeeding. Oh also I’m a firm believer in what you eat affects baby so much so just experiment with diet. My baby’s 2 months and last week she started-

Getting quite bad gas again and I noticed I’d started to really like this chickpea flour egg recipe I tried to stop eating that and in a few days things went back to normal, olvs everybody’s body is different literally just what worked for me xx

mine is literally like that all day . No matter how much gas I take out, there’s so much more.
He finds it hard to sit in car seat now as well because of the discomfort. Keeps waking up and crying in distress .
Did you see a private paediatrician or were you referred on by GP? My GP just gave me some lactulose and said it’s very normal for baby to be this gassy. It’s like they don’t take it seriously. Mine got worse from gripe water as well.

was gas the only symptom your baby had? I think mine has silent reflux as well and he does sound very nasal since birth but doctors just said that’s normal and will go away . Not sure if those are cmpa allergy symptoms

which one did you use

As with others my first was like this and it turned out to be allergy related. Wish i had known earlier because those newborn days were 😵‍💫😵‍💫 i would seriously consider excluding dairy

we went to out of hours gp which for us is based in a&e he referred us up to the children's ward to be seen by paediatrician. She wasthr first person to actually listen. She asked us to wait a week to see if there was a virus as he was very snuffly but not snotty. At the next appt we got a dietician referral. The appt is today so I'llet you know what it's like.

there’s lots of different symptoms, my little boy had very bad acne and rash, tummy ache, constipation when got a bit older, hives when got older very congested nose and eyes, very unsettled cried and we couldn’t settle him ( we didn’t know it was cmpa until about 8 months) x

we used Optibac x

The dietician I've seen has just recommended to try anti reflux formula as she doesn't think it's an allergy as the rash isn't coming up with his feeds. He also isn't being sick at random times or has diahorrea which she said were all key to allergy. She said anti reflux formula can help with gas.

thanks for letting me know , I’ll have him checked out as well , he is constantly arching his back while feeding even after having his poo.
