Walking

Hey ladies, I am 6 days pp after an emergency c section. I spent 4 days in hospital before coming home and the cabin fever is really hitting me. Do you think I could go on walks with my partner and baby? I am also struggling with a bit of pp anxiety so I think the sunlight and fresh air would help but don’t want to hinder my recovery. Would appreciate any advice 🥰

No, it’s way too soon

I walked to the end of the village and back after the first week which is about a 5/10 min walk and it did me the world of good getting some air. You know your body so of it hurts or to much then stop

Not too soon at all! I have been on walks with my boy and gone to Tesco! He is 9 days old x

Go on a lovely walk in the sun🩷

Five minutes walk I would say. I know it’s hard but you will have much more strength in another week to go a little further. Do you have anywhere you could go to sit outside? Or be driven somewhere for a change of scenery, a park, coffee shop etc? It gets better hang in there xxx

Go for it. Don't expect a lot of yourself, I was so shocked by how absolutely exhausted I got just walking around my complex for 5min. But it's very worth it and you'll feel yourself get your strength back more and more with each walk! Take it at the pace that feels right for your body.

Thank you so much ladies, I’m lucky to have a nice little coffee shop 5 mins from my house so I think I’ll treat myself to an iced latte and some fresh air, thanks for all your advice and I hope you and your LOs are well 🫶🏻🤍

Physiotherapist suggested 5 mins walk in week 1. 10 mins in week 2. 15 mins in week 3 and we can build slowly. Maybe do go for a small walk and sit outside for a while to absorb the sunshine and fresh air?

@Niru this is great advice thank you 🥰

Your situation sounds very similar to mine. I'm 2 weeks PP today, also had an emergency C and had to stay in hospital for 5 days. I only found myself feeling well enough to go on a short walk yesterday, and by short I mean literally 5 minutes. This morning I've woken up in more pain, but not substantially more. It was really lovely to get out but I would say just listen to your body. You will know when you feel well enough, but start with slower and shorter walks than you would expect to do so not to take a step back in recovery. Xx

Short walks are absolutely fine for sure just make sure you listen to your body and don’t over do it x

I stayed in 6 days, 7th day at home I walked 10/15 mins had some dinner then walked the same back home :) do a short walk, take your pain killers before you set off, walk slow and stop if you need to x

Deffo not too soon! I was doing the shops 7 days pp after a c section! Better for you to be walking and taking it steady than not moving at all! Just remember wherever you go, you have to walk back so don’t over do it, as it’s easily done. You may feel more healed than you are so just take it very easy

I started with a short walk to the end of our road and back about 7 days pp (emergency C). I’ve built up a little more each day (now 11 days pp) and I feel so much better mentally and physically. All the medical professionals I’ve seen have said to mobilise as much as possible. The first walk was by far the hardest.

Absolutely go on the walk ! I had an emergency section in December 22 and I was “back to normal” within 4 days. Shopping and walking and socialising, it helped my mental health immensely and I think it made me feel physically better too ! Just have little breaks and sit downs but absolutely go for it especially in the sun ☀️ xx

@Beth it’s not easy gal! I hope you are feeling better soon and that your little one is doing well 🫶🏻 thanks so much for the advice xx

Thanks so much for all the advice ladies I really appreciate it, I’m so happy I downloaded this app🥹🤍

I had an emergency c section in December and I had a little walk to our local cafe 4 days pp and then 7 days I went to get photos of my daughter took! I was very very slow but I took my time and it was so nice to get out and about a little 😌 xx

@Bethany I genuinely think it will make such a difference to my mood! X

Also had an emergency c section and was in and out of hospital for 6 days but I literally went on a walk on the 6th day and would have done it sooner if I was out of hospital. Really enjoy getting out in the sun and pushing the pram! Do you hun and it’s good to get out for you and the baby🥰
