Colostrum harvesting help!!!

Hey so I have the syringes but I’m confused am I supposed to express into something then suck it up in the syringe or am I supposed to attempt to syringe the little beads directly off the nipple feel so silly asking but I’ve never done it before 🤦‍♀️

Probably best/easier to express it into something and then suck it up into syringe.

With my last when I did this I use to let it drop into a shot glass or little pot and then syringe it up after. Found it easier to do it while I was in the bath too

thank you that is what I was thinking but I didn’t want to get it wrong and it have to be wasted x

I just syringe directly from the nipple

I’ve tried both found doing into a little pot easier just make sure you sterilise whatever you use first x

My method is so attach a haake in the bath and lean forward then use the syringes to transfer x

I just grab straight into syringes, but I've not had much luck harvesting anyway 😬

So when you hand express it’ll go on the end of your nipple I had the syringe in one hand and sucked up each bit whilst expressing with the other :)

Quick question, can someone please tell me from where I can get syringes. I’m 34+2. But my midwife didn’t mention anything about it.
Should I ask her for syringes or to buy from somewhere?

Avatar

I collected directly into the syringe, I didn’t get enough to drip into something!

Avatar

I got them from antenatal clinic at the hospital.

I found it quite straight forward expressing into the syringe. Saves the hassle of having to sterilise a container etc. and you can just squeeze little by little and get it in the syringe. Alternatively, ask your partner if possible to help you by you expressing and them catching it int the syringe x

my midwife didn’t mention until my 36th week appt. Apparently you shouldn’t do it before 36/37 weeks anyway. So I’d say wait for now until then. Alternatively, you can buy them off Amazon pretty cheap!

I’ve found the best way is to express into a spoon and then collect it with the syringe at the end 😊

I was given a little medicine cup and syringes from my midwife. I'm just turning 37weeks so haven't tried it yet

Thank you everyone I used the silicone nuby pump but hand expressed into it then collected with a syringe I managed to get 1ml to fill the syringe does that sound about right for the first time x

Avatar

you can ask the midwife or order ‘sterile syringes off Amazon’ :) xx

Avatar

Amazon they come in a kit. Sterile too.

I remember after giving birth and managing to hand express roughly 5mls and the midwives were really happy and impressed.
They say baby barely takes much milk so early on. So anything is good and I know for most, milk doesn't come through straight away always.
I remember hand expressing for a good 20mins and getting like 1ml. The effort for the amount. But they were happy with that

I asked my midwife about this and she gave me a couple of syringes x

Did you know this was a thing?

Didn’t know this existed! I’m actually not breastfeeding 2nd time round (though wish I did) after a bad experience with my 1st baby. But this is something I 100% needed 1st time round.

Screeching baby

I have twin boys, 5months.

One is very quiet

The other... is like a pterodactyl who screeches when bored, tired, hungry, as soon as he wake up to be held etc...
This habit has only just started!

Has anyone else experienced this and how long did it last?
So far it has been about 5 days 😭😭😭😭

Circumcision, please help

I know it can be a really sensitive topic, but I feel really underinformed about whether I should choose to circumcise or not if we end up having a boy.
For context: we are very non-religious, but I worry about the stigma of being non-circumcised when he would start to get interested in dating, navigating cleaning it and the risk of infection especially as he gets older and navigating potty training at daycare and stuff. I also worry about the increased risk of penile cancer. But then I also hate the thought of making my baby go through a major surgery unnecessarily and would prefer for them to make the choice when they are older if they choose to get circumcised.

How did you make your choice? Does anyone regret their choice?

Joie Signature Parcel LX lightweight stroller

Has anyone got this stroller? Up until now we have used our mamas and papas ocarro and we love it. However we are going on holiday in June and looking at a lightweight stroller to take with us. I'm not bothered if it fits in overheard locker, I would rather have decent wheels on the stroller and this one does have slightly bigger wheels than most travel strollers we have seen. Has anyone used this stroller abroad or got any other recommendations? TIA x
