Any tips on how to successfully brush my toddlers teeth, he absolutely hates it. He screams and wriggles so much that I can never successfully clean them....I'm not sure I've even made contact with the teeth at the back. I'm so worried about his dental hygiene, does anyone have any tips. Currently it takes me and my partner to attempt it but even then I know we aren't cleaning them as well as we should.

Have you ever let him try himself? My daughter absolutely hates me brushing her teeth but if I give her the tooth brush and brush my teeth at the same time as her she will copy and go around her whole mouth! Could be worth a try if you haven’t already xx

When I brush my little boys teeth I sing a song to him while I’m brushing his teeth. I try to make it as entertaining as possible for him and praise him loads once we are finished.

No tips cos we are in the same boat at the moment. I just give him the brush and hope for the best at the mo but I always brush my teeth at the same time so he watches/learns and once he's "done" I still try and do the back teeth even tho he cries... hopefully it's a phase!!

It's like wrestling match here. I lay her on the anti roll changing mat and have to use one hand to open her mouth and move tongue out the way and the other to brush quickly. Always screaming and I get kicked in the throat

I have tried letting him do it, but he just sucks the toothpaste off and doesn't brush. I have tried getting him to copy me too, he is having none of it 🫠🫠🫠

I hope it's just a phase, else his teeth will fall out before he is two!

savage isn't it.

haha yeah we went through this too! Hopefully it is just a phase for him!

@April Yes. I did everything recommended to prepare for it. Watched tooth brushing videos and songs. Let her watch me brush. Let her play with it and taste toothpaste (strawberry, mild) . Brushing dolly and teddy's teeth. Her brushing mine. She loves all of that. Still won't have hers done without force. Tried it the gentle way for so long. Wasn't working but they need to be brushed or they'll decay.

Start with no toothpaste at all. You can add toothpaste way later when he is super comfortable with brushing.
Give him a toothbrush and get one for yourself. Sing a toothbrushing song, then demonstrate on yourself, then sing a song again and try brushing his teeth. If he refuses, act like it was a plan all along.
Repeat at least once a day at the same time.
It will take 2-4 weeks but one day out of nowhere he will be excited about you brushing his teeth as well.
This worked on my daughter and she is the most stubborn child ever!

Mine is obsessed with the toothbrush but he has an electric one that lights up. Have you tried that? Or just using a normal one? X

Make it into a game, don’t let him see it annoys you, when youre brushing them, happy gestures only so they know it’s good xx

My little girl likes to hold it herself and tends to just suck it. She will do a little brush of the front teeth but nothing properly. She used to allow me to have a turn after her but only give me chance for a quick brush of the front there was no chance of reaching the back. She has a teddy for comfort so the last couple of days I have said “is mammy brushing your teeth or flossy” she obviously chose the teddy (flossy) so I just pretended the teddy was holding the toothbrush and I managed to get a good brush of front and back teeth.

My LO has always HATED having his teeth brushed it's daily struggle twice a day haha im hoping one day he will learn it's just a apart of daily routine that need to be done!

It's so hard isn't it?! 😫

I've tried both, he doesn't like either

I haven't tried this. I'll give it a go 🙏
