Diactis recti

Hi December mums!
I’m not quite sure if I have diactis recti or something else but since having my baby in December I still look about 5 months pregnant. I’m a size 12-14 at the moment before pregnancy was a 10-12. Since giving birth I can’t wear anything tight or can’t wear a pair of jeans it’s getting quite hard to dress as my belly is making my whole body look out of proportion. It’s really really getting me down now, I feel so bad in myself. If I’m intimate with my partner I have to wear a top because I feel ugly.
Has anyone else got or had anything similar. I have an older child but they’re six now & after having them about three months later my stomach was pretty much back to normal but this time round it just looks ridiculous.
Do I need to speak to my GP? Just not sure what to do really.. 😔

I am exactly the same. I was a size 10 before getting pregnant with my second (first pregnancy I just bounced back withing 8 weeks) now im a size 12-14. I've tried dieting but as I am EBF I started to feel dizzy. So went back to my normal diet. I don’t have any advice just wanted to say you are not alone. Give yourself a break. You have had two kids. I've just bought myself some high waisted trousers and BF tops which make me look better than the clothes i had before.

A womens health physio is likely to be much better than GP! Ive had a few appointments with mine and now going to a postnatal pilates and my gap has definitely closed up a good bit- I dont look pregnant but still got a bit of a belly but thats because Im treating myself left right and centre lol

Thanks for your replies! How can I tell if it is diactis recti as not sure. I’m kinda just going by pictures I’ve seen of what it looks like. I guess I’d just have to speak to a professional to get it diagnosed but could it be something different? It’s the top part of my stomach that’s massive & looks bloated. x

If you lie down on the bed and try and tense your abs and go into an almost sit up- then press you fingers down in a line from your bra strap down to your belly button- if you can feel a gap you probably have it. By the way 50% of pregnant women have this issue after birth! I would say a womens health physio ‘mummy MOT’ would be worth the money even if it is something else because they are soo helpful instead of GP!

Thanks so much! That’s super helpful! I will definitely look into it 🙂

I went to physio after being referred by my GP after the birth of my first. All they did an assessment and recommended exercises. Focus on your core muscles and stretching and standing tall. I did yoga which I found helped after my first but I haven't been as organised my 2nd so feel the difference and my back is suffering.
