New Job does not know I’m pregnant

Hi gals x

I recently was offered a new job which was a very long process to get.

When I went for my first interview I did not know that I was pregnant (I found out quite late)

By the time I had my 3rd interview I did know, but didn’t have the balls to tell them.

I’m now 24 weeks (viability week yay!) and start next week but still have not told them 😵‍💫

I’m a little nervous to go into my new job pregnant because I do not want to be discriminated against or talked about negatively as I know it isn’t the best look.

I am even happy to sacrifice my maternity leave if it means I will not be let go after my probation period (company states you are eligible for their maternity leave scheme regardless of length of service)

Has anyone had this situation happen to them?
Very very anxious about next week xx

Hi, just thought I would pop a message as I work in HR. I just wanted to reassure you that you are very well protected so you should feel reassured that they should not discriminate against you when you start working because you are pregnant. If they do for any reason you have very strong grounds for making a claim against them so any decent employer wouldn’t dare challenge you. Also feel reassured that it’s not an uncommon situation and I have come across plenty of women who have notified me after joining that they are pregnant.

I’m currently in the same boat. Not quite sure how to break it to them.

Heyy, I’m going through something similar.I found out that I was pregnant in January. That same month I started applying for jobs. By March I was invited for an interview and I didn’t tell them because legally we’re not obliged to tell them at that point. It took a few weeks for me to finalise the recruitment process and so I only started working on 1st May. It was on that day (after I had already signed the contract), that I informed the manager of my pregnancy. I was about 22 weeks.

I’ve been working at this new job for the past month. I personally don’t feel discriminated against and I don’t hide my pregnancy when people ask about it. I work as hard as I can and I get the feeling that my colleagues value how dedicated I am.

I work as a doctor in the NHS which is a high stress environment. But I don’t think that being pregnant makes me any more stressed than the rest of my colleagues.

I’d say speak with occupational health/HR so you can get the best advice for your workplace.

I've only just told my new job. Luckily they've been great about it. I was super nervous but feel so much better now they know for safety reasons.

These replies have made me feel a lot better.
The company I now work for are VERY well known, so I have a little bit of reassurance in that sense that they would act accordingly. Thank you girls x

I wanted to settle in before I told my new job but they called my old job for a reference and they told my new job. I’m very annoyed about that!
