HELP

I’m a FTM. Just gave birth last week. My newborn was sleeping and woke up, pooping and sneezing. I felt like I heard his sneeze be weird and I went up to him and saw he had white snot??

On another note, his lips always get like this after feeding. And his lips are also looking chapped ??

Please help I’m so anxious

It’s normal for newborns to be congested.. maybe try a bulb snot sucker if he seems distressed. as for the lips it’s also normal and due to the friction and constant contact with the skin from sucking

I’m not sure about the snot but the lips are normal as he’s still so new and doing a lot of sucking for milk think of it like when you got blisters/calluses on your hands from being on the monkey bars a lot

so white snot is not a concern? 😥 thanks so much for responding!

ohh I see! Thanks so much!

Honestly that just looks like leftover fluids my baby had the same thing in the sucker for a few weeks and as for the lips that also looks fairly normal. I wouldn’t be too worried

The white snot is normal snot, if it’s yellow or green that’s concerning! Just try to keep his airways clean and clear! As for the lips, he may not be latching properly and it’s causing friction. So maybe try different positions or see a lactation specialist

You should use a clean suck and suction his mouth probably mucus from birth trying to come up

Nope! Not a concern ♥️

For the lips, if he’s not latching correctly it MAY be because of a mouth tie. You should be able to easily see yourself if baby has a mouth tie (normally would be upper lip in the middle with a thin piece of tissue connecting the upper lip to the upper gums or a tongue tie which is a thin piece of tissue that’s connecting the tongue to the bottom of their mouth underneath the tongue). A lot of pediatricians and LCs don’t know anything about mouth ties so if you suspect you see one I’d go directly to a pediatric dentist that specializes in mouth tie revisions to get it evaluated and see if it needs to be revised. If it’s not a mouth tie you could always just generally consult an LC about their latch or the chapped lips ♥️
