Signed off work

Has anyone got signed off work before their MAT leave?

I am constantly in SO much pain. I’m a primary school teacher so I am constantly on the go. I got sent home yesterday because the midwife wasn’t sure if it was contractions or bad braxton hicks, I’ve been in hospital most of today. They’ve basically said I am in so much pain because that’s my body telling me I need to slow down and I need to rest. I’ve got 17 days of work left before my MAT leave, I’m 34 weeks tomorrow….

Has anyone experienced the same/similar and got signed off?

Look after yourself. It's hard as I'm guessing you want to hold out until the holidays but if the pain continues you need to rest.

I got signed off for 2 weeks before my mat leave started it was covid times and I was anxious about getting sick again

Check your contract, in some it will state if you go off sick within a certain amount of time before your mat leave is due to start, it just starts anyway. For me it's 3 weeks. So my mat leave is due to start at 37 weeks, but if I go off sick at any point after 34 weeks my mat leave will just start.

Slightly different but I’ve been signed off by HR at 32 weeks (their choice more than mine) due to the fact there’s complications in the pregnancy and been in and out of hospital a lot the last few weeks and now still there regularly. It was done by discussion between my manager/HR and myself, followed up by a discussion with the doctor. I officially start maternity leave at 36 weeks (work have enforced this). I’m not in the same field but could be worth having a meeting and discussing with your boss and then discuss with the doctor? Hope this helps!

It all depends on your setting.
I’m a HLTA and I had major surgery 2 weeks ago due to babies diagnosis. For recovery, I’m not allowed back to work. They’ve signed me off until 10/09 however, baby will be be born before then so assuming my mat leave will start once she’s here.
Work have been great and accepted the fact that my sick note is in place until September.

I was signed off from 15 weeks onwards from my last pregnancy as I had lots of pregnancy related issues. The most important thing is your health & your babies health. I think my mat leave started at 36 weeks because I was off sick

Obstetrician led

I’m having shared care between midwife’s and obstetrician.

My previous pregnancy I had extra growth scans as baby was measuring big and I had pre-eclampsia during labour and a full dilated emergency C-section.

This time round I’m having obstetrician appointments, midwives appointments, cervical length scan every two weeks from 16-22/24, and extra growth scans again .

I’m just finding it all a lot to process can anyone let me know there experiences and if they went on to have a happy pregnancy despite it

Mums that have kids🥰

When you gave birth and came back home with your newborn. When people wanted to come visit you straight away. How did you feel?

Everyone has different experiences I’m so curious x

Movements

How are people with no obvious ‘pattern’ monitoring baby movements?

My babies movements vary so much day to day, there is no pattern I can see whatsoever.

For example, over the weekend i felt him a few times during the day but nothing crazy, Monday & Tuesday he was wild in there and I felt movement on and off all day, today back to a few times.

When it varies this much I have no idea how I’m supposed to work out what is ‘normal’ and when to be worried!!!

Midwife visits

how many PP midwife visits have you had and at what point??
I’m 3 weeks PP tomorrow, had a midwife come out on day 1 and then day 5 and got told at the day 5 visit that a midwife would come out again once baby has reached birth weight so that we could be discharged, yet she’s been back to birth weight for a week and we’ve heard nothing from midwife’s. all contact now seems to be only from a health visitor but she’s not coming back until another 3 weeks.
Should we have had another midwife visit post day 5, or have atleast heard from them during this time…? 15 days no contact at all makes me assume i won’t?
