Hello
My baby is half formula half breast milk fed. I find that shes ready to eat starting with purees since i fed her a puree mix yesterday and she smiled the whole time eating, and was in a better mood for a hour after- and didnt request milk which she does hourly(i thought she was cluster feeding) she is 5 months old.
How is store bought rice cereal? How many times a day can i feed her it? And what are some ither good puree options? (Made at home) Please advise mamas! ❤️❤️

Hi Nadia, I would make sure your baby shows the other signs of being ready (Solid Start is a good resource). Rice cereal isn’t the recommendation because of arsenic if you’re going to feed it everyday then you might want to do oatmeal instead. We liked Baby Gourmet here but as long as it’s got iron it’s a good place to start. One meal a day first, then 2, etc. Again, I can’t recommend Solid starts enough for ideas of schedules, first foods, etc
You can make home made purées with literally anything. Choose foods your family eats. We started with green beans, cauliflower. If the consistency isn’t right you can add breast milk. Have fun?

Solid starts was my feeding bible as a FTM! So many great blog posts on their website, Instagram and the app for how to cut and serve things.
Also agree making sure she’s showing the 4 signs of readiness. They have a great blog post on it.
I never did rice cereal to start. I would blend oats and make a runny oatmeal in the morning sometimes.
Remember formula/BM is still the main nutrition until 1. Food before 1 is just for fun.

I would also recommend solid starts and watch for other signs of readiness for solid food. It’s not just her willingness but also her digestive system to be mature enough to handle the solid foods.
You can puree anything by first steaming it and blending it. No salt or sugar.
You can also try baby led weaning where you start with soft chunky foods and allow the baby to explore different textures while learning to feed herself.

You can buy rice or oat cereal (I personally prefer oat) and feed your baby that once a day. I'd do it before bed so she's nice and full. And then top off a bit later with a bottle.
As for purees, have fun experimenting! Mash whatever fruits or veggies you have. Avocados, banana, watermelon, steamed apple, and green peas just to name a few!

Ladies is solid starts an app?

they have an app (which is mostly how to serve food) a website with lots of blogs and an Instagram page full of info and links to the blogs etc.
