What happens at birth when…

I’m pregnant with my second. I have no family. I don’t have any friends who could take my first born over night.

Im getting myself so upset thinking that my partner will have to stay at home with our first born while I give birth to our second alone.

I literally have no idea what to do.

Hi,
How far along are you? Just wondering if there’s perhaps time to gradually build trust and a bond with a babysitter.

And does your first go to nursery? You might not need to stay in hospital over night and obviously best to have a back up plan but possible that your baby will be born in the day time.

Does your partner not have family either?

You could opt for a home birth if that's possible?

No.

My birth will be consultant lead so home birth is not an option for me.

goes to a childminder but they don’t offer over night stays. Be fine if I go into labour and I’m done while little one is at childminders but I can’t bank on that. Yeah I’ve been trying to reach out to babysitters but so many of them can’t provide emergency cover if I need to go to hospital in middle of the night or on certain days of week. I just feel I hit a brick wall whichever option I explore.

Can you ask your consultant if your 1st LO can come with?

If you’ve got a little while left I’d look at hiring a Nanny for a day a week to build up to birth. Then during the birth your LO can be at home with Nanny and they can do an overnight. If you’re consultant led then I’d bank on maybe staying overnight x
